In an interview with Screen, Abhinav Kashyap revealed how Salman Khan's family felt the "need to take entire credit" as it was a "landmark film" for him as well as the actor. The director expressed that he was "sidelined" during the marketing of the movie. Abhinav also shared that he thinks that the Khan family deliberately did everything to pave the way for Arbaaz Khan.

Abhinav Kashyap added that after he put up the film together, the Khans realized that "they have a winning product on their hands." Kashyap shared that he was pushed out of the project as everyone tried to claim credit.

In the same interview, Abhinav also stated that he was ready to leave the sequel, 'Dabangg 2', happily; however, issues happened when the Khan family went after him. He said, "They harassed me; that's why I stepped away."
Kashyap went on to say that the Khans "wanted a slave kind of a director" and wanted him to do everything he was asked to.The director stated that the family "would leverage my creativity, steal credit, and make money." The filmmaker further shared that he noticed such things while filming the first part itself, and hence he knew similar things would happen in the sequel. Kashyap added, "No respect, no fame, no money, no credit."

Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, the film marked Sonakshi Sinha's debut. Released on September 10, 2010, it also featured Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Mahie Gill. According to a Sacnilk report, the movie earned Rs 215 crore globally.
