Ayushmann Khurrana earns a prestigious international honour—Joins a league of global icons

This year, Ayushmann Khurrana has been invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, joining a distinguished group that includes Kamal Haasan, Naomi Ackie, Gillian Anderson, Jason Momoa, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and others. A total of 534 individuals were invited on June 2 for their significant contributions to global cinema.

In an official statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed their excitement about welcoming this accomplished class of artists, technologists, and professionals. They praised the invitees for their dedication to filmmaking and their impact on the worldwide film community.

The Academy has a rigorous process for selecting new members. Candidates must be sponsored by two current Academy members from the relevant branch, except in cases of Academy Award nominees, who are automatically considered in the year they are nominated. The Board of Governors makes the final decision, with diversity, inclusion, and equity remaining key priorities.

Ayushmann began his career by winning MTV Roadies in 2004 before making a successful film debut with Vicky Donor in 2012. Over the years, he has delivered several acclaimed performances in films like Andhadhun, Article 15, Badhaai Ho, Dream Girl, Bala, and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, building a reputation for choosing socially relevant and entertaining stories.

Responding to the honor, Ayushmann shared a news clip on Instagram and expressed his gratitude. He wrote, “Honoured to be invited to join The Academy and contribute towards celebrating excellence, perfection and disruption. Truly an incredible feeling to represent India, our cinema & culture at The Academy.”
