Bihar's renowned singer
Sharda Sinha has been admitted to the ICU at
AIIMS, Delhi, where she is undergoing treatment for critical health issues. The 72-year-old Padma Bhushan awardee has been battling multiple myeloma, a type of cancer affecting the bone marrow, since her diagnosis in 2017. Her condition reportedly worsened following the death of her husband, Brij Kishore Sinha, who passed away on September 22 due to a brain haemorrhage. The couple had been married for 54 years.
Sharda Sinha is celebrated for her contributions to folk music, particularly in Bhojpuri and Maithili languages. She gained national recognition for her song "Babul Jo Tumne Sikha" from the Bollywood film 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' and has sung popular songs related to the Chhath and Aastha festivals. Her deep connection with her roots and cultural heritage has made her a beloved figure in Bihar.
Following her husband's passing, Sharda has been overwhelmed with grief, which many believe led to her declining health. In a post on Instagram, she expressed how much she misses him. She wrote, "Miss you so much Sinha Sahab ! Why did you go away taking all my strengths?", sharing a picture.
Sharda Sinha was born on October 1, 1952, in Samastipur, Bihar, into a musical family. She began her career with All India Radio and Doordarshan in 1980 and quickly became known for her powerful voice and emotional delivery. Over the years, she has received numerous accolades for her work, including the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018.
