'Boong' win at BAFTA 2026: Popular butter brand gives special touch to the Manipuri film

Indian cinema achieved a historic milestone with the Manipuri film 'Boong' winning at the BAFTA Awards. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar back the film. The film became the first Indian film to receive this honour from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The big win at the prestigious ceremony triggered celebrations across the country, especially in Manipur, with many calling it a landmark moment for regional cinema on the global stage.

The film, narrates a heartfelt story of family, longing and hope. It revolves around a young boy named Boong, played by Gugun Kipgen, who dreams of bringing his broken family back together. Raised by his single mother Mandakini, portrayed by Bala Hijam Ningthoujam, he embarks on an emotional journey with his best friend to search for his missing father. Through its simple yet powerful narrative, the film beautifully captures childhood innocence, deep emotions, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her son.




With this historic BAFTA win, 'Boong' has secured its place in global cinema history and given a strong voice to regional Indian storytelling on the world stage.
