Can Khan give Celina immortality?

If Janasheen fulfills all the promises, Celina Jaitley has just bought herself a permanent place in the sun.
Can Khan give Celina immortality?

Created to be remembered. Other filmmakers have obsessed, slaved and given form to their fantasies, but none as abidingly as these two showmen. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">And inevitably, the histrionics have taken a backseat to the presentation of the leading ladies. Lot of skin, always tantalising, and well, many times over the top. Raj Kapoor’s was his woman in white – the thin muslin sari, preferably drenched. Khan’s women are in swimwear, designer, minimalist and, naturally, drenched.</span></div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -6"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="50.4%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:=""> <div class="Normal"><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-weight:="" bold=""><script language="javascript" src="Config?Configid=43376741"></script></span><br /><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-weight:="" bold="">Also visit</span></div> </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" fbfbfb=""> <div class="Normal"><a href="http://photogallery.filmfare.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/articlelist?msid=59397" target="_blank">More Celina pics</a><br /><a href="http://clubs.indiatimes.com/clubs/celinajaitleytheabsoloutelybestofher" target="_blank">Celina Fan Club</a></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">Think Mandakini. The virginal Ganga of the mountains on her way to getting </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">maili</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""> in the plains. The blue-eyed beauty that Kapoor picked from Meerut after an exhaustive search had an entire generation agape when she bathed under a waterfall showing it all.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">Now think Celina Jaitley. Another light-eyed beauty half immersed in water playing the violin. The designer cleavage has the next generation agape. Film buffs still remember not only Dimple Kapadia’s hot turn in Khan’s </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Jaanbaaz</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">, they also can’t forget a doped-out Sridevi swaying sexily or even the coup – getting Rekha to do an item number. If <a href="http://movies.indiatimes.com/articleshow?artid=287822" target="_blank">Janasheen</a> fulfills all the promises that the promos make, Celina has just bought herself a permanent place in the sun. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">It is not just the sizzles. Other directors have tried their hand at showing skin. Ramesh Sippy did a decent enough job in </span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="" font-style:="" italic="">Saagar</span><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">. More recently, Anurag Basu got Bipasha Basu to shed on the Pondicherry beaches. But these are one-offs. When it is the Kapoor or the Khan, it’s a class apart. </span><br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal">Raj Kapoor of course invented the art. He also had a head start beginning so many years before the Khan. Kapoor’s presentation of his woman was lyrical and when she bared with uninhibited exuberance, no one would dare point and say “dirty old man. They would scarcely do that with Feroz Khan either. <br /><br />The women are different. Raj Kapoor’s heroine was earthy, usually a village belle or small town girl with a leashed sexuality that had to scream innocent. From Nargis’ subtle sexuality, through Vyajanthimala’s more overt oomph, a bosom-heaving Padmini and even the ultimate schoolboy fantasy, Simi Garewal changing in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Mera Naam Joker</span>, Kapoor’s heroines set pulses racing. The one who got away was Padmini Kolhapure in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Prem Rog</span>.</div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -6"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="50.4%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:=""> <div class="Normal"><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-weight:="" bold=""><script language="javascript" src="Config?Configid=43376741"></script></span><br /><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-weight:="" bold="">Also visit</span></div> </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" fbfbfb=""> <div class="Normal"><a href="http://photogallery.filmfare.indiatimes.com/cms.dll/articlelist?msid=59397" target="_blank">More Celina pics</a><br /><a href="http://clubs.indiatimes.com/clubs/celinajaitleytheabsoloutelybestofher" target="_blank">Celina Fan Club</a></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><br />Khan’s women, the most glamorous actresses of their time always had urbane chic. Remember Mumtaz in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Apradh</span>? Even Hema Malini as the Afghan tribal in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Dharmatma </span>had a certain polish to her. And as the years wore on, the swimwear became ubiquitous, save the odd Madhuri Dixit in Dayavan, who kissed to make up. <br /><br />Forgettables like <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Yaalgaar</span> may be remembered for an obese Naghma parading in a bikini to keep callous husband Sunjay Dutt entertained. Of course there is also Prem Agan, son Fardeen’s debut vehicle, lost completely in the huge pile of also-rans.<br /><br />The two men’s celluloid fantasies converged in the lissome form of Zeenat Aman. If Raj Kapoor’s camera caressed every curve on Aman’s fabulous body in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Satyam Shivam Sundaram,</span> Khan did equal justice to the screen goddess in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Qurbani</span>. Other beautiful women acted in films made by both – Hema Malini, Dimple et al. But it is Zeenat who has since defined feminity as the two extravagant showmen saw it.</div> </div>
