'Dhurandhar': Casting director Mukesh Chhabra says Rakesh Bedi had tears in his eyes after the film's success; recalls him saying, 'Been working for 49 years'

And amidst the buzz around the film at the box office, veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, who played the role of Jameel Jamali in the film, had tears in his eyes for the success. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra opened up about Rakesh Bedi's reaction to the espionage thriller's box office rampage.

In an interview with India Today, Mukesh Chhabra revealed the reaction of Rakesh Bedi when he recently met him at his office. The casting director shared, "He (Rakesh Bedi) said, 'I've been working for 49 years, but I've never felt like a star the way I do now.' He had tears in his eyes."

Rakesh Bedi plays the character named Jameel Jamali, a Karachi politician who patronizes Akshaye Khanna's Rehman Dakait in the film. Ranveer Singh's Hamza, who is an Indian spy, convinces Rakesh Bedi's character to side with him instead of Dakait for political and personal gains. The veteran actor has received praise for his layered performance.

In conversation with Moneycontrol, he had shared earlier that what people witnessed in part one of the film was just half. He added, "The rest is in Part Two. I have a bigger role in part 2."

The Aditya Dhar directorial has crossed the Rs 1167 crore mark at the global box office, making it the sixth highest-grossing Indian film ever. Even in its 4th week since the release, the film has been raking in strong numbers at the box office. In India, it earned over Rs 740 crore.

Starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, and R Madhavan, the film was released in theaters on December 5, 2025.

The second installment of the film is set to arrive in theaters on March 19, 2026.
