Johny Lever is one of the most popular actors that Hindi cinema has ever produced. He has left the audience wooed with his screen presence and live shows through the years and also often is touted as the 'King Of Comedy'. But who would have thought that someone who makes others laugh so much, would actually have gone through immense trauma in his personal life.
In an earlier interview, the actor opened up on his growing up days in Dharavi. Reflecting on a disturbing childhood memory, he shared that he witnessed his first murder at a very young age. He recalled being just seven years old and studying in Class 3 when the incident took place. "When I was enrolled in Class 3 at the school. I was seven years old. Someone had thrown someone and murdered them. Although talking about these things doesn't feel good, I have witnessed all of this," he said in an interview with
Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast.
In the same interview, the actor had revealed he went to the railway tracks to commit suicide at the age of 13 as he recalled his difficult days during childhood. Speaking in Hindi, he said, "I had difficulties when I was younger. I have my family to take care of. Food would only be available if I worked. When my father drank, he would lose his sense of judgement. He was formerly a notorious rowdy. I had thrown away his weapons so many times.”
He went on to share a deeply emotional incident from his teenage years, revealing that he once contemplated ending his life. "I went to a railway track to commit suicide when I was 13 years old. I had had enough of my dad. I proceeded to the track and the train approached. I quickly left the trail when my three younger sisters' faces suddenly materialised in front of me, asking, "What will happen to us?""
Johny added that music became his refuge during that dark phase, helping him move away from such thoughts. Recalling that evening in detail, he said, "It must be around 6.45 pm or 7pm." After getting up, I moved closer to a barbershop where music was playing. I sat on the bench that was behind the store. Over the years, Lever has acted in over 300-350 movies and his net worth as per several reports stands at Rs 277 crore.
