From 'Jawan' to 'Barbie', 10 most searched movies of 2023​

This year was a bash for the entertainment industry as the audience got numerous blockbuster movies to watch in the theatre. Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' has topped the list of the most googled Hindi films this year. Speaking of 'Jawan', it secured the third spot in the search list and was followed by Sunny Deol's hit 'Gadar 2' at number eight. SRK's another film 'Pathaan' wrapped up the top ten most searched films of the year worldwide. Check out the top movie searches on Google:

​'Barbie'

'Barbie' is based on the eponymous fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated films. It stars Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken and follows the pair on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the supporting cast includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

'Oppenheimer'

Directed by Christopher Nolan, 'Oppenheimer' showcases the life and career of American theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, the man responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb. The film, which is based on American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin, was a big hit upon its release this summer.

Filmmaker Atlee’s 'Jawan' was the only Indian film to find a spot in the top 3 globally. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role as father and son who team up to rectify corruption in society. Other actors such as Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra appear in supporting roles. It is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma.

'Sound of Freedom'​

​'Sound of Freedom' was promoted by right-wing pundits and politicians including former US President Donald Trump. In the film, Jim Caviezel plays Tim Ballard, a former US government agent who embarks on a mission to rescue children from sex traffickers in Colombia. The plot centers around Ballard's Operation Underground Railroad, an anti-sex trafficking organisation. It is produced by Eduardo Verástegui, who also plays a role in the film.

'John Wick: Chapter 4'

​'John Wick: Chapter 4' is one of 2023’s most anticipated films. It premiered with Keanu Reeves returning as the famed hitman who is out to get revenge on the High Table. It also stars Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane. The film was directed and co-produced by Chad Stahelski. ​

'Avatar: The Way of Water'

​'Avatar: The Way of Water' took the box office by storm by emerging as the third-highest-grossing film in history. It follows a blue-skinned humanoid named Jake Sully as he and his family, under renewed human threat, seek refuge with the aquatic Metkayina clan of Pandora, a habitable exomoon on which they live. It was co-produced and directed by James Cameron.

'Everything Everywhere All at Once'​

​'Everything Everywhere All at Once' is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The movie stars Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant. It also stars Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and James Hong in supporting roles.

​'Gadar 2'

'Gadar 2' is a sequel to 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' which was released in the year 2001. It stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, who reprise their roles from the previous film. It was theatrically released on 11 August 2023 and became a commercial success. 'Gadar 2' also became the first film screened for Lok Sabha members in the New Parliament building. It was directed and produced by Anil Sharma.

'Creed III'

'Creed III' is the sequel to 'Creed II', the third installment in the Creed film series, and the ninth overall in the 'Rocky' film series. The film sees the accomplished and recently retired boxer Adonis Creed come face-to-face with his childhood friend and former boxing prodigy Damian Anderson. 'Creed III' stars Michael B Jordan in the lead role who also directed the film.

'Pathaan'

Shah Rukh Khan made his big comeback on the big screen after four years with Siddharth Anand's directorial 'Pathaan'. It smashed all the records at the box office within a few days. Apart from SRK, the movie starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead roles. It is part of YRF Spy Universe and showcases the events that took place after 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Tiger Zinda Hai' and 'War'. Salman Khan reprised his role of Tiger in 'Pathaan'.
