'Ghooskhor Pandat' title controversy: Legal notice sent to makers; petition filed to stay the premiere of Manoj Bajpayee starrer
The teaser of Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming film 'Ghooskhor Pandat' was released recently at an event. The movie quickly became the topic of discussion, not for its content but for the title. Netizens slammed the makers for using the word "Pandat," referring to a particular caste and associating it with corruption. And now, a legal notice has been sent to the production house of the film. Let's learn more about it.
The report further stated that as per the notice, the title is "per se offensive" and objectionable since it associates the Pandit community, which is respected and has an intellectual identity, with corruption and bribery.
The notice claims that such usage unfairly associates an identifiable community with “criminality and moral depravity."
As per the report, the petitioner claimed that the title 'Ghooskhor Pandat' is defamatory, as it "deliberately associates a well-recognized religious and social designation with corruption and bribery, thereby maligning and lowering the reputation of an entire community in the eyes of the public."
As per the petition, the makers have violated Articles 14, 21, and 25 of the Constitution of India, as the title is selectively targeting a particular religious community.
Meanwhile, neither the streaming giant nor the producers of the project have issued an official response to the issue so far.
Directed by Ritesh Shah, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Shraddha Das, Divya Dutta, and Kiku Sharda.
