​Highest grossing A rated films in Bollywood ​

Censor certification is a big thing for movies releasing in cinema halls, it pretty much decides to which age bracket a film can cater to. Makers usually aim for U or U/A certificate as the field opens up for maximum audience. But there are also films with an A certificate that go on do business that many universal films can't do. Let's take a look at them.

Animal

Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal is now the highest grossing A rated film in the country with the film entering Rs 300 crore club in just 6 days. The film was given A certificate for its violence and gore.

Kabir Singh

Before Animal, the record for highest grossing A rated film was with another Sandeep Reddy Vanga film Kabir Singh, which was a Hindi remake of his Telugu film Arjun Reddy. The film had minted Rs 278 crores at the box office.

The Kashmir Files

The film delves into the untold stories of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, it provides a powerful narrative, shedding light on the tragic events and the emotional toll on the displaced community. The film prompts reflection on historical injustices. The film had minted Rs 252 crore at the box office.

The Kerala Story

The storyline revolves around a cluster of women from Kerala compelled to undergo conversion to Islam and join the Islamic State. Advertised as a factual account, the film is based on the controversial Hindutva conspiracy theory of love jihad. The film made Rs 242 crore at the box office.

​OMG 2 was the spiritual sequel to Akshay Kumar's 2011 hit film Oh My God with Paresh Rawal. The film speaks about the need of sex education in schools. The film went on to make Rs 150 crore at the box office .

Udta Punjab

​Udta Punjab is a dark drama highlighting the drug abuse epidemic in Punjab, India. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film portrays the intertwining lives of a rock star, a migrant laborer, a doctor, and a police officer as they confront the rampant drug trade. It's a gritty depiction of societal issues and individual struggles. The film has a major struggle getting its censor certificate and ended up taking the matters to the court. The film made Rs 60 crores at the box office.
