In a move that has sent shockwaves across the music industry, superstar singer
Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing. The much-loved vocalist revealed, through a social media post that he will no longer take up any new assignments as a playback singer.
“I am not gonna be taking any new assignments”
Arijit Singh made the announcement through a social media note, thanking his listeners for the love he has received over the years. In his message, the singer wrote, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
He also expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support, calling his journey as a playback singer “wonderful”.

Over the last decade, Arijit Singh has emerged as one of the most influential and beloved voices of contemporary Hindi cinema. He made his Bollywood playback debut with Raabta from Agent Vinod in 2012, composed by Pritam.
However, it was Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 in 2013 that catapulted him to superstardom, firmly establishing him as the definitive voice of romance in Hindi films.
From soul-stirring romantic numbers to emotionally charged ballads, Arijit’s discography is packed with chart-toppers. Some of his most iconic songs include Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Gerua, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Kesariya, Phir Le Aaya Dil, Khairiyat and Shayad, among several others.
The Salman Khan fallout and reunion
A few years ago, Arijit Singh had made headlines following a reported fallout with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Post the incident, the singer did not lend his voice to Salman Khan’s films for several years.
The issue was eventually resolved amicably, and Arijit later sang for Salman Khan starrers, including Tiger 3.
Apart from Hindi films, Arijit has also sung extensively in Bengali and Assamese cinema, as well as independent albums, further cementing his versatility as a singer across languages.
