Pressure to recreate the magic of Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai has led the three Roshans – Rakesh, Rajesh and Hrithik – to once again team up for Koi Mil Gaya (KMG).

"People called me a one-hit wonder," said Hrithik. "If that''s my destiny, I can''t do much about it... People shouldn''t be shooting their mouths off. I created history once, I just might do it again."

Hrithik doesn''t attempt to hide his feelings. "I have never been so jittery in my life. If something goes wrong this time, my heart will break," he said.

Is it make or a break for him now? "I don''t know. But I know what I''m all about. The choice of remaining in the industry is mine," said Hrithik.

The actor said that he "was propelled to superstardom overnight and was pulled down with equal vigour... In all this, I held on to my sanity. A hit doesn''t guarantee recurrent success or otherwise. Today, I look at success as acceptance of my effort on screen."

Though the landslide of flops helped him get things into perspective, it was sheer bad luck that despite working with the best in the industry - Subhash Ghai, Sooraj Barjatya, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, etc - the films bombed.

"I can''t be blamed. It is the film which is either good or bad. Luckily, I''ve always been appreciated as an actor. And that''s quite motivating," he said.

The response to the promos and previews of Koi Mil Gaya have assured Hrithik that "he''s on the right track this time... I have lived my dream role in this film. I can dream further only if it''s accepted. I don''t expect anything, but I''m certain as a student of cinema that Koi Mil Gaya will take cinema to a new level."

He set aside rumours that Koi Mil Gaya was inspired by ET or Forrest Gump, terming it as "original" and "as close to ET as any other English film is, with an alien in it."

"It is the storyline of a kid and his encounter with life from another world. I used experiences from my childhood and exaggerated them on screen," explained Hrithik. The Roshans hired Marc Colbe, who did the special effects for Jurassic Park, Independence Day and Swordfish, and a stunt director from Australia.

Besides the special effects, Hrithik depended on contraptions for the elasticity in his dancing. "It was tough. The dances are not computerised," he said.

While the going was tough in the past three years, Hrithik''s father was his silent supporter. "He always told me that as long as there is reason to move forward or work to do, I shouldn''t look back."

Hrithik is now waiting to explore roles involving "out and out comedy, and with negative shades." And whom does he consider his best co-star? "No personal likes. A beautifully written relationship and two good actors make for the best pair."

What went wrong?

Subhash Ghai, director: Hrithik relied on wrong judgement. With Koi Mil Gaya, he will change everyone''s opinion, because talent survives against all odds.

Indu Mirani, trade analyst: There seems to be a strange sort of insecurity which lead him to accept the wrong films and multiple ads, which meant that every time you switched on the TV he was there. For a new actor, especially one who became an instant heartthrob, overexposure is suicidal.

Shyam Shroff, distributor: Sometime subjects fail, but you can''t keep a talented actor down for long. He is going to be around for a long time.

Rani Mukherjee, actress: Actors don''t take wrong decisions deliberately. There are certain low phases in their careers. Even I''ve gone through it.

Kareena Kapoor, actress: Hits and flops are part of every actor''s life. It''s just a matter of time before everything falls back into place.

Amisha Patel, actress: Every great actor has his share of hits and flops. His dedication has never wavered and that counts.
