Konkona Sen (TOI Photo)Actor Ranvir Shorey, better known for his rib-tickling one liners, says there’s more to him than comedy. He can get away with murder, literally. With a mere quirk of his eyebrows and a straight face, the actor conveys the most ribald, rib-tickling or irksome emotions, depending on the script. Meet Ranvir Shorey, the actor who has added some finer nuances to the art of subtlety.

His acting prowess has been recognised and appreciated by the audience and the critics in films like Khosla ka Ghosla, Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Bheja Fry. The actor who started his career as a VJ, has finally arrived in Bollywood (albeit, after a spate of flops). Today, whether it is a Bheja Fry or a Khosla Ka Ghosla, or even a talk show on TV - his unique chemistry with Vinay Pathak brings out the best in him. Ranvir admits to this, "We have been acting together in all the media including theatre, TV and films for the past 10 years now. Naturally, that comfort factor makes a difference and it shows."
Ask him how he gets away with murder, while delivering the most bizarre dialogues in that blase manner of his and he replies, "A lot more can be done, said and delivered in the garb of comedy." And do his guests get offended sometimes? "No way! When they leave, they generally hug me and realise that it is all in good fun. So, there are no hard feelings there."
Ranvir will soon be seen in Madhuri's comeback film Aaja Nachle. To the question whether he also went ga ga over Ms Nene like most of the industry men, and he laughs, "Actually, I play the guy who is in love with Madhuri... And then closes the chapter with "I can't tell you more because of the confidentiality clause." Try riling him with a comment on his getting slotted merely as a comic actor, despite his obvious versatility, and Ranvir blithely says, "I have been around for too many years and outlived many slots. Today, I just don't give a damn. I just do my job. And by the way, I am doing different kinds of roles in my films like Mithya and Sirf." And what does he have to say about his former girlfriend Pooja Bhatt slapping Muzammil, after all, he had also lodged a complaint against the lady for her alleged misbehaviour with him? For once, Ranvir prefers to don a diplomatic veneer as he says, "What's done is done. Today, she is a married woman and I don't wanna talk about it!" What about his equation with Konkona - after all, they are supposed to be going around? Are there any wedding plans in the offing? He laughs and says, "You guys are terribly misinformed. Konkona and I are not a number, we are just friends. And no wedding plans for me please!" Once again, the man has zapped you.
