Manoj Kumar, the veteran actor, who passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai, was not just a performer but a symbol of national pride. His legacy isn’t just etched in films like Purab Aur Paschim and Kranti, but also in the unforgettable patriotic songs that continue to stir hearts across generations.
According to NDTV, admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Manoj Kumar breathed his last at 3:30 am on Friday. The cause of death was heart-related complications, with decompensated liver cirrhosis listed as a secondary cause.
Here are five songs that immortalised him as Mr Bharat:
Mere Desh Ki Dharti (Upkar, 1967) A song that redefined patriotic music. When Kumar heard Gulshan Bawra’s lyrics, he immediately handed them to Kalyanji, resulting in a timeless classic.
Hai Preet Jahan Ki Reet Sada (Purab Aur Paschim, 1970) Written by Indeevar and sung by Mahendra Kapoor, this song has become a staple during national celebrations in schools and institutions.
Aye Vatan Aye Vatan Humko Teri Kasam (Shaheed, 1965) Sung by Mohammad Rafi and penned by Prem Dhawan, this song became an anthem of patriotic devotion.
Mera Rang De Basanti Chola (Shaheed, 1965) Choosing lyricist Prem Dhawan over popular composers was a bold move, but it paid off. The haunting “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola” still evokes goosebumps as it channels Bhagat Singh’s undying spirit.
Ab Ke Baras Tujhe Dharti Ki Rani Kar Denge Yet another prominent addition to Manoj Kumar's patriotic song is surely Ab Ke Baras Tujhe Dharti Ki Rani Kar Denge song from the classic film 'Kranti' which hit the big screens in 1981. Ab Ke Baras Tujhe Dharti Ki Rani Kar Denge still connects with people due to it's touching lyrics and also high production quality.
