Mona Singh is stepping into a role she says she has never played before. In director Suresh Triveni’s film 'Subedaar,' she plays Babli Didi, a sand mafia leader who keeps Anil Kapoor’s character under constant pressure. Singh says the part pushed her out of her comfort zone, from the look and behavior to the dialect and attitude. She also says the character drives the story and leaves little room for anyone to relax.

According to OTTplay, Singh recalled how she reacted when Triveni called her with the offer. Her first thought was, "Arey baap re! Yeh kya de diya mujhe?” (Oh my God! What have you given me?) She says she wanted a character with flaws and a real challenge, and Babli Didi delivered that. Singh describes the role as “full of surprises” and "little whimsical,” while also being demanding in ways she did not expect.
