Neha Dhupia lost 23kg post-pregnancy: Here’s her weight-loss and fitness mantra as a mother of two - ‘There are no shortcuts’
Neha Dhupia is an actor and TV host who has made her mark in both films and television. She rose to fame with films like ‘Julie’, ‘Qayamat: City Under Threat’ and ‘Singh Is Kinng’. Over the years, she appeared in a variety of roles, from comedies to thrillers. On television, she is well known as a gang leader on ‘MTV Roadies’ and for hosting talk shows.
In recent years, Neha has been as much in the spotlight for her personal journey as for her professional work. Becoming a mother of two brought many changes to her life, and with it came the natural weight gain that most women face after pregnancy. Unlike many who rush into strict diets or harsh routines, Neha allowed herself the time to heal and focus on her children first. Only later did she start looking at her own health goals.
It was only during the lockdown that Neha truly decided to take charge of her health. She committed to following a calorie deficit diet and made lifestyle changes that fit into her busy routine as a working mum.
“I have dinner with my kids at 7:00 pm, which is very helpful, and breakfast with my husband at 11 am. All of this helps,” she said. By sticking to a routine and choosing balance over restriction, she was able to build habits that lasted.

Four years of ups and downs
Neha shared that her fitness journey was far from easy in the beginning. Speaking to Hindustan Times in past, she said that while the average postpartum weight gain is around 17 kg, she had put on more. “It was a crazy span of four years, where I lost and put on weight time and again,” she said. As a new mother, her main focus was on breastfeeding and caring for her kids. This meant her own fitness took a back seat for some time.It was only during the lockdown that Neha truly decided to take charge of her health. She committed to following a calorie deficit diet and made lifestyle changes that fit into her busy routine as a working mum.
Food choices that made the difference
Neha kept her approach realistic and doable. Instead of crash diets, she simply cut down on certain foods. She avoided too much sugar, fried snacks, and gluten. Along with that, she made smart changes to her mealtimes.“I have dinner with my kids at 7:00 pm, which is very helpful, and breakfast with my husband at 11 am. All of this helps,” she said. By sticking to a routine and choosing balance over restriction, she was able to build habits that lasted.
No shortcuts, only consistency
In an Instagram post reflecting on her journey, Neha wrote, “The truth is there are no shortcuts, there is no easy way around it… stay consistent, work hard and show up especially on the days you don’t feel like it at all.”Fitness helped her mental health as well
For Neha, this was not just about looking different. She explained how being healthier made her feel stronger both inside and out. “Being healthier allows me to keep up with my children and boosts my confidence. My mental well-being is closely tied to my physical health,” she said.Advice to other mums
Neha knows that many mothers struggle with postpartum changes and the pressure to bounce back quickly. Her message is clear, it is not about extreme diets or overnight results. It is about loving yourself through the process. In her own words as per the Instagram post, “Get up, get out, work out and love yourself! Cause there’s just one you.”"Get the latest news updates on Times of India, including reviews of the movie Coolie and War 2."
