‘Panga’: FIVE reasons to watch Kangana Ranaut’s sports entertainer

Kangana Ranaut is about town promoting her next release ‘Panga’ wherein the actress will be seen in a desi avatar. She essays the role of a retired kabaddi player who is keen to make a comeback. Her last film ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ was a quirky comedy, but with ‘Panga’, the actress promises a family entertainer set against a sports backdrop. She will be aptly supported in her act by Jassi Gill, Richa Chadda and Neena Gupta. Here’s taking a look at why you must catch ‘Panga’ in theatres.

Kangana Ranaut-Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s combo

Kangana Ranaut and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari collaborating for a film is a recipe for success. One powerhouse actor and a talented filmmaker are sure to dish out massive entertainment on the silver screen. While Kangana has played de-glam roles in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ series, Ashwiny has aptly narrated a desi story with ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and expectations are high from their maiden collaboration. The duo formed a warm bond while shooting for 'Panga', “Kangana and I were acquaintances and today, we are the best of friends. We can talk about everything and there is no pretence. The biggest reason for this is the respect that we have for each other,” Ashwiny had told ETimes.

Sports drama

Kangana Ranaut will be seen essaying the role of a retired kabaddi player in ‘Panga’. The actress underwent extensive training of the sport to perfect her onscreen character, who tries to make a comeback as a kabaddi player. Kangana had revealed during an interaction that growing up she was never into sports and learnt Kabaddi purely for the film. Speaking about the kabaddi scenes, Ashwiny had told ETimes, “While some sequences were shot with international and domestic players, on some days, we only had the latter. Kangana and Richa put in a lot of effort and so did the players, to ensure that their energies are at par. We had practice sessions before every sequence.”

Engaging characters

Apart from Kangana Ranaut playing the lead, ‘Panga’ also features powerhouse stars Richa Chadha and Neena Gupta. Giving a sneak peek of their camaraderie on the sets, director Ashwiny had told Bombay Times, “I really enjoyed what Richa, Kangana and Neenaji did with their combination and individual scenes. They added such value to their characters that I didn’t have to make an effort to break the ice anywhere.” Going by Ashwiny’s excitement, it will truly be a treat to watch the trio share the frame in ‘Panga’.

Simple narrative

‘Panga’ features a simple narrative of a forgotten kabaddi champ played by Kangana Ranaut. After leaving the world of sports she goes to take up a job with the Indian railways and is a perfect mother and wife. However when she comes across new-age kabaddi players, Kangana is reminded of her days and is tempted to enter the world of sports yet again. She gets good support from her husband and kid and thus begins her comeback journey. This simple narrative is sure to make you fall in love with Kangana’s not so glamorous avatar which is backed by a lot of emotions.

Kangana Ranaut is assuring a powerful start to 2020 with her kabaddi act. This is the first sports drama film of 2020 and is also Kangana’s first entertainer of the year. ‘Panga’ has many firsts and should definitely be a part of your must-watch list this Friday. While her biggest release of 2020 will be ‘Thalaivi’, Kangana is assuring entertainment round the year, starting with this sports drama.
