Pehle sirf Appu Ghar tha. Now, Noida can be a weekend getaway for all of NCR: Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is no stranger to fan frenzy and overcrowded venues. So, it didn't come as a surprise when he kept his cool despite almost being mobbed by excited fans when he was in Noida recently. We caught up with him during his trip, and even though he might visit the city only occasionally ' that too just for film promotions ' it turned out the actor knew a lot more about the city than we had expected.

Q: Noida has always been considered Delhi's poor cousin.But now, with so many malls and entertainment zones coming up, do you feel it could help this city in becoming the recreational hub of NCR?
SRK: I would not agree with the 'poverty and cousin' relationship of Noida and Delhi, actually. The reason so many malls and recreational zones are coming up here is because developers are very specific about the kind of space that they need to create such centres and malls ' that is only available in Noida. Having said that, it doesn't take away the fact that even if that space was available in Delhi, like Connaught Place, many would still prefer Noida. I think it's very important to give as much exposure to as many places as possible. I've heard that two more theme parks are coming up here. So, it will be really interesting to see this place develop as a centre for kids. When I lived in Delhi, bas ek Appu Ghar tha. That was the one place we could go to. There was no variety. Har baar ussi purani jagah ka option tha. But that is changing now. I guess this place can be a weekend getaway for people in NCR.

Q: We have Film City in Noida, but we don't see a lot of film shoots here. Most celebrities head to Noida for promotions only and not shoots. Why?
SRK: I just shot a film in Delhi. A lot of shoots happen in NCR as well. But when it comes to a studio, I think, wherever the industry is settled in large numbers or rather in majority, which happens to be in Mumbai, the actors, technicians and directors decide to keep the studio shoots there. Coming to NCR means an outdoor shoot for us. So, if we come here and shoot in a studio, that would be kind of dichotomous ki hum Delhi mein aa rahe hain jo outdoor hai hamare liye, aur hum yahan aa kar studio mein shoot karte hain. Jab studio mein hi karna hai toh Mumbai mein hi sahi. But having said that, when the studios started here, there was quite a buzz about them and I believe the TV industry does make good use of them.
