Rajinikanth to be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
On Thursday, Prakash Javadekar, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, announced that Rajinikanth will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar posted it on Twitter
Prakash Javadekar tweeted, “Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic (sic)."
Announcement for the award was delayed due to COVID
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2019 was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the jury for the award were Asha Bhosle, Biswajit Chatterjee, Mohanlal, Shankar Mahadevan and Subhash Ghai.
Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2018
Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2018. However, since he was unable to attend the award ceremony, a ceremony was organised later at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rajinikanth to receive the award on May 3
Rajinikanth will receive the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award on May 3. He has also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan in the past.
