Rakhee Gulzar backs Aamir Khan's wedding to Gauri Spratt, says, 'What is wrong with marrying at 60? I got married when Gulzar was almost 40'
Aamir Khan's wedding bells are set to ring on July 5, 2026, when he will marry his partner Gauri Spratt. The actor has never hidden his affection for Gauri and confirmed the news himself not too long ago. Now, adding to the celebration, veteran actress Rakhee Gulzar has weighed in on the happy occasion, sharing her warm wishes for the couple ahead of their big day.
In a rare conversation with Variety India, the famously private Rakhee opened up about Aamir’s upcoming wedding. While she admitted to being largely disconnected from the film industry's happenings, she had nothing but kind words for the actor. "I am not in touch with the goings-on in the film industry, nor have I worked with Aamir Khan. But I do know he is a very sincere person. And I love the way he has maintained his friendship with his two wives (Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao) even after the marriage. It says a lot about him."
Aamir's third marriage has not been without its share of online criticism, but Rakhee was quick to dismiss any notion that age should be a barrier to love or marriage. "What is wrong with marrying at 60? Robert de Niro has been married twice and is now in a relationship (with partner Tiffany Chen), with whom he shares a daughter born in 2023. They had a child when he was more than 80 years old. Happiness in a marriage is not about age. I got married when Gulzar was almost 40."
The actor himself had confirmed the wedding news in an earlier interaction, keeping it simple and straightforward. "I'm currently travelling in the US. The news about the marriage is true. It's on July 5," he had said, adding, "Now we both feel we are ready to take our relationship to the next level."
He had first made his relationship with Gauri public on his 60th birthday in 2025, in what turned out to be quite a surprise for fans. At a private gathering with members of the media in Mumbai, Aamir opened up about their bond, revealing that the two had known each other for 25 years before finding their way back to each other about a year and a half ago.
Aamir Khan's personal life has seen several chapters over the years. He first married Reena Dutta in 1986, and the two went on to have a son, Junaid Khan, and a daughter, Ira Khan, before parting ways in 2002. He then found love again with filmmaker Kiran Rao, whom he married in 2005. Together they welcomed a son, Azad, born through surrogacy. However, in 2021, the couple announced that they were going their separate ways.
