Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji lost out a golden opportunity to essay the role of Mary Kom in her biopic by laying down unreasonable conditions. It is said that
Sanjay Leela Bhansali was keen to cast his favourite actress Rani Mukherji as Mary Kom in the athlete’s biopic. Bhansali has already worked with Rani in
Black and
Saawariya, and shares a comfort quotient with him. However, Rani, who has had bad experiences in the past with new directors
Anurag Singh in
Dil Bole Hadippa and Sachin Kundalkar in
Aiyya, was little hesitant to get directed by newcomer Omang Kumar.
Hence, when Omang came to Rani with the offer to do Mary Kom, Rani suggested that Omang first shoot a few scenes with her. If she liked them she’d do the rest of the film.
However, this suggestion irked Omang who then hastily signed
Priyanka Chopra for the role. Insiders say that no actor can do a test-run with a director. Hence, it was due to unreasonable conditions that Rani lost out such a meaty role to Priyanka.
