'Ranveer Singh wounded religious sentiments,' says Bengaluru advocate as he files FIR against actor for his 'Kantara 2' remark
Ranveer Singh mimicking Rishab Shetty's act in 'Kantara: Chapter 2' at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) Goa in November sparked a massive controversy. And now, advocate Prashanth Methal has filed a formal complaint against the actor over "allegedly performed acts that insulted and mocked the sacred Daiva tradition." Let's learn more about it.
The lawyer further shared, "On December 3, 2025, I went to High Grounds Police Station and filed a complaint against him. High Grounds Police did not register an FIR. Subsequently, I filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division, and the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, requesting directions to register an FIR. But it all went in vain."
He elaborated further, saying, "So finally, after exhausting all options, I filed my complaint in a competent court under section 223 as a private complaint."
Prashanth Methal shared that the complaint has been registered under Sections 196, 299, and 302 of the BNS. He said, "It's a cognizable and punishable offense, with up to 3 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. On January 28, 2026, the court ordered an investigation under section 175, clause 3, and issued a direction to the High Grounds Police Inspector. Under Section 175 (3), the police are legally bound to register an FIR before commencing the investigation."
Prashant Methal, in his formal complaint against the actor, stated that Ranveer Singh "allegedly performed acts that insulted and mocked the sacred Daiva tradition. Referring to the deity as a ghost is described as blasphemous and a serious insult to Hindu religious beliefs and practices."
He said, "I saw that in the theaters, Rishab. It was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost gets inside your body. That one shot..."
Soon, videos of him went viral on the internet, and people called his comments disrespectful and a mockery of their gods. Later, the 'Dhurandhar' actor issued a public apology, saying that he didn't mean to hurt anyone or the religious sentiments, as he respects all religions.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
