RRR' makes it to the BAFTA nominations longlist, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' out of the race

Sanjay Leela Bhansali had done an intensive campaign and submitted Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' for all the categories at the 'British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). On Friday, the nominations for the BAFTA were announced for 24 categories and unfortunately, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has missed the bus.'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was submitted in categories like 'Best Film', 'Director', 'Adapted Screenplay' and 'Leading Actress', but it failed to make the cut. The good news is the SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' has been made in to the 'Film Not in English Language' category. This Ramcharan and Jr NTR starrer also had Alia in an extended cameo.Other films in this category apart from 'RRR' are - 'Argentian, 1985', 'Close', 'Decision To Leave', 'The Quiet Girl' amidst more. These longlists for all categories were announced on Friday while the final nominations will be out on January 19. Earlier, Bhansali's 'Devdas' was nominated at the BAFTA in 2003. This time around also, the filmmaker hoped the same for 'Gangubai..'. He delivered his first ever masterclass at BAFTA, discussed his career and had an interactive session with the students there.Other Indian films which have been nominated at BAFTA include, the 1982 film 'Gandhi', 'A Passage To India' and 'Salaam Bombay'.The awards ceremony will take place on February 19 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.Here's the complete nominations longlist:BEST
