Shiney Ahuja, starring in ‘Gangster,’ to run business in the Philippines? Here’s what the 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' actor is up to now

Shiney Ahuja was born and raised in Delhi. His father was a colonel in the Indian Army, and his mother was a homemaker. After starting engineering in Bengaluru, Shiney discovered his love for the theater with Barry John in Delhi. He started off in advertising and was featured in commercials for some of the top chocolate and banking brands, etc. It was a very charming commercial of a soft drink that caught filmmaker Sudhir Mishra' eye and brought him into Bollywood.

Shiney made his debut in Sudhir Mishra’s 2005 film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ with Kay Kay Menon, Chitrangada Singh, and Saurabh Shukla. The film was universally acclaimed, and Shiney won the famous Award for Best Male Debut. He further solidified his success through Anurag Basu’s ‘Gangster,’ also a launchpad for Kangana Ranaut in Bollywood and a major box office success.

Riding the wave of popularity, Shiney was delivering impactful performances in a stream of hits, including ‘Woh Lamhe,’ ‘Life In A Metro,’ ‘Fanaa,’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa,’ which turned him into one of the most promising actors of his generation, with a deep presence and depth of emotion.

In 2009, Shiney’s life was thrown into disarray when he was accused of the rape, wrongful confinement, and intimidation of his 19-year-old maid. Although the complainant had changed her statement, in 2011, a fast-track court in Mumbai found Shiney guilty on medical and DNA evidence and sentenced him to seven years in prison. He appealed his conviction and was eventually granted bail by the Bombay High Court.

Shiney attempted a return to the industry with Anees Bazmee’ 2015 film ‘Welcome Back,’ which was a financial success but did little to revive his acting career. This was his final film in Hindi cinema. In 2023, the Bombay High Court allowed him to renew his passport for another ten years. Recently, a post from X (previously Twitter) went viral claiming that Shiney Ahuja, having turned 50 in 2023, is currently running a garment business in the Philippines.
