'Sooryavanshi', 'Jersey', 'Tadap': Bollywood films that will hit the big screen in 2021

A few weeks ago, after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey announced that cinema halls will reopen from October, Bollywood filmmakers lined up to announce release dates of their pending films. While some films played it safe and picked dates in the next year, most of them hurried to book their slots in the few weeks that they have this year. Besides theatres, OTT platforms, too, have an interesting lineup of films and series ready to entertain. Irrespective of what your choice of medium is, the upcoming two months promise blockbusters galore. Here's taking a look at all that's on offer...

'Sooryavanshi'

Helmed by Rohit Shetty, 'Sooryavanshi' is the fourth film in the filmmaker's cop-universe after 'Singham', 'Singham 2', and 'Simmba'. it stars Akshay Kumar as Anti-Terrorism Squad chief DCP Veer Sooryavanshi opposite Katrina Kaif, with a supporting cast of Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Vivan Bhatena, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer and Jaaved Jaaferi. Finally, the film, that was ready for release last year itself, is scheduled to open in theatres on November 5, 2021, on Diwali. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh reprise their roles of 'Singham' and 'Simmba' from the franchise's previous films.

'83

'83 is a biographical sports film directed by Kabir Khan. It stars Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev, along with Deepika Padukone as Romi Dev, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya and Sahil Khattar among others. The film is now slated for a theatrical release on December 24, 2021. The release date was postponed owing to the pandemic.

'Jersey'

'Jersey' is the remake of a 2019 Telugu film by the same name. The Hindi version stars Shahid Kapoor as a cricketer, alongside Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur. The film was officially announced in October 2019 and was scheduled to be theatrically released on August 28, 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic struck and delayed production. The film will now release on December 31, 2021, coinciding with New Year.

'Antim: The Final Truth'

Mahesh Manjrekar's 'Antim: The Final Truth' stars Salman Khan, Aayush Sharma, Pragya Jaiswal, and Mahima Makwana in lead roles. The movie is based on the 2018 Marathi film Mulshi Pattern and is scheduled to be released on November 26, 2021.

'Tadap'

Directed by Milan Luthria, 'Tadap' is the remake of the Telugu film 'RX 100' (2018), and stars debutant Ahan Shetty, opposite Tara Sutaria. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on December 3, 2021, as opposed to its initially-planned release on September 24, 2021. But a halt due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, led to delay in production and post-production work.

'Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui'

'Chandigarh Kare Ashiqui', directed by Abhishek Kapoor, stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in pivotal roles. The film has been scheduled for release on 10 December 2021. The makers had wrapped up the shoot for the same last year, in the same month.

'Satyameva Jayate 2'

Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film is the official sequel to the 2018 film 'Satyameva Jayate'. The film stars John Abraham, Divya Khosla Kumar, Rajeev Pillai and Anup Soni in pivotal roles. Last month, the actor took to his Instagram handle to share the revised release date of the film. The post was captioned as, ''Do Takke Ki Jaan lene 56 inch ka JIGARAA nahi, 56 kilo ka HATHODA chahiye! #SatyamevaJayate2 releasing on 26th November 2021''.
