Suniel Shetty turned visibly emotional while speaking about the difficult phase his son Ahaan Shetty went through after his debut film Tadap failed to make an impact. Addressing the audience at the song launch of Border 2, the actor shared a candid father’s perspective on how uncertainty and waiting can affect even star kids.
“One day, after his first film, there was a little break. You know, there’s always a turmoil in our lives,” Suniel said, hinting at the anxiety that followed Ahaan’s debut.
Calling out the common assumption around nepotism, Suniel underlined that lineage does not guarantee smooth sailing.
“Everyone thinks, yes, Suniel Shetty’s son would have got a lot of work. But somewhere or the other, there’s a lot that Ahaan went through in life,” he added, stressing that disappointment and silence are part of the journey.
A father’s prayer for Border 2
Expressing gratitude that Ahaan landed Border 2 at a crucial point in his career, Suniel said the film couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I am so happy that he got a film like Border 2, which couldn’t have been a better film. And I just pray that he has done justice and the film works for all of us,” he shared.

“The only thing I said was, whatever you do, do it with your heart,” he said, emphasising sincerity over quick success.
‘Indebted’ to Nidhi Dutta
Suniel also spoke emotionally about the support his family received during Ahaan’s low phase, especially from Border 2 producer Nidhi Dutta.
“That’s why I have always been indebted, and I use the word ‘indebted’. I am not saying a thank you... Nidhi is like my little daughter,” he said.
Adding a father’s perspective, he noted, “For Nidhi to take Ahaan in such a big film is a big thing. So, from a father’s point of view, I am indebted.”
Gratitude to JP Dutta
The actor also thanked director JP Dutta for believing in his son. “I would like to thank JP, who gave me the opportunity. And today, Ahaan is here because of that. Thank you all,” Suniel said.
For context, Ahaan Shetty made his acting debut with Tadap in 2021, which underperformed at the box office. He will next be seen in Border 2 alongside Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan. The film is slated for release on January 23.
