Sushmita Sen and
Salman Khan share a warm bond even today, but their first meeting on the sets of ‘Biwi No. 1’ did not begin smoothly. Salman once recalled that Sushmita walked away from him after he arrived late for the shoot. The actor said he was surprised by her reaction because it was their first meeting. The moment later became a light memory between the two stars, who went on to work together in more films.
Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan’s first meeting
In an earlier interview with ETimes, Salman Khan recalled the incident when Sushmita Sen appeared as a guest on ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,’ hosted by the late Farooque Shaikh. Salman said he arrived on set late, while Sushmita had already been waiting since morning.
“One day I turn up late on sets, on the first day of shooting, at 11 o’clock. Sushmita Sen was there since 9 o’clock in the morning. So the moment I went to the sets and said ‘Hi Sush’ - that was the first time I was meeting Sush - ‘Hi Sush, how are you Sush? Salman’. And she just shakes my hand, she does ‘huh’ and she walks away,” Salman said.
The reaction left Salman confused. He said Salman then turned to director David Dhawan and asked, “What’s her problem, man? Why’s she giving me attitude?”
Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen’s bond
The awkward start did not affect their long-term equation. Salman later praised Sushmita on the same show. The two actors worked together in ‘Biwi No. 1’ and later collaborated on films such as ‘Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya’ and ‘Tumko Na Bhool Payenge.’
Their friendship also continued beyond film sets. Sushmita was once seen dancing with and hugging Salman at his birthday party. Salman also cheered for her after the release of ‘Aarya 2’ and wrote, “Arre wah (Wow) Sush, how nice you looking ya. Totally killing it. So happy for you.”
