Taapsee Pannu says husband Mathias Boe never lets her feel the burden of a relationship: 'I almost forget that I am married'
Taapsee Pannu recently opened up about her marriage with former badminton player Mathias Boe, sharing candid insights into possessiveness, cultural differences and their long engagement. In a new interview, she reflected on past relationships, her expectations from a partner and why they finally decided to tie the knot after nine years of being engaged.
When asked whether a “videsh se aaya hua pati” can also be possessive, Taapsee laughed and said, “Dekhiye ab aap mujhe is wale controversy mein maar daali hai.” She clarified that she does not compare “desi” and “foreign” men in that manner.
Reflecting on past relationships, she admitted, “Mujhe lagta nahi tha main apni life ka ek kadam bhi bina pooche le sakti hoon, kyunki yeh gawara nahi hota tha ki ladki ladke se zyada successful ho sake.” She added that she has been with Mathias for 13 years now and does not experience such insecurity in her current relationship.
"He never let me feel the burden of a relationship. I almost forget that I am someone who is married," she said during a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra.
Calling herself “old school,” she revealed, “Pehli doosri date ke baad hi badi clarity thi ki dekhiye aage badhenge agar lagta hai ki shaadi tak baat pahunch sakti hai, nahi toh effort kyun karein.”
She added that her condition before marriage was simple: “Agar sab same reh sakta hai tabhi shaadi karte hain.”
When asked about shifting countries after marriage, Taapsee said, "We both logically discussed what would work long-term. His life has always involved traveling because of tournaments, so moving around wasn’t new for him. I also tried staying abroad, but I knew I couldn’t live there permanently. We figured out what works best for both of us."
Recalling cultural differences during the ceremonies, she said, “Itne shock mein the ki yeh muh ganda kyun kar rahe hain,” referring to reactions during the haldi ritual. She also laughed about guests dancing energetically without alcohol, which surprised Mathias’ side.
"They were shocked that people were dancing so wildly without alcohol! For us, music starts and we just dance. To this day, they tell me it was a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” So I feel whatever money I spent was worth it — at least they’ll remember my wedding forever," she added.
On dealing with online scrutiny, she said, “Na main na mera pati comment padhte hain,” adding that they prefer staying happy in their own world.
She joked that they eventually decided to tie the knot because they did not want it to become the “world ki sabse lambi engagement.”

‘Jisko main bolun din toh din... aisa bhi nahi chahiye’
Speaking about equality in marriage, Taapsee said, “Jisko main bolun din toh din, jisko main bolun raat toh raat, toh yeh maan jaayein — nahi, aisa bhi nahi chahiye.” She explained that she does not want a partner who blindly agrees with everything she says.Calling herself “old school,” she revealed, “Pehli doosri date ke baad hi badi clarity thi ki dekhiye aage badhenge agar lagta hai ki shaadi tak baat pahunch sakti hai, nahi toh effort kyun karein.”

Wedding, cultural shocks and not reading comments
Taapsee also shared that she could have monetized her wedding. “Bahut paise mil jaate... international Netflix par bhej sakte the main toh apni shaadi,” she said, but chose to keep it intimate and rooted in tradition.Recalling cultural differences during the ceremonies, she said, “Itne shock mein the ki yeh muh ganda kyun kar rahe hain,” referring to reactions during the haldi ritual.
