Television works when emotions connect with the audience: Producer Prateek Sharma

Prateek Sharma says emotional engagement is the key to sustaining a hit show. “To keep a show on top, you have to keep playing with human emotions by introducing ups and downs in the story. You need to be well aware of what the audience is liking and their reactions.” Pointing to changing viewing habits, he adds, “Now, with vertical storytelling and social media, you get instant feedback… you have to keep experimenting while maintaining an entertainment factor. The change has to be gradual, and you must maintain a balance between old content and new.”

On wearing multiple hats as a producer, Sharma says, “It allows you to explore different areas; otherwise, you end up limiting yourself.” Known for shows like Beyhadh, Pyaar Ka Pehla Naam: Radha Mohan and Pyar Ka Pehla Adhyaya: Shiv Shakti, he believes in blending relatability with freshness. “I look for concepts that feel real and relatable… and add a fresh layer to familiar emotions so the narrative doesn’t feel repetitive.”

Talking about Tumm Se Tumm Tak, he says, “Within a short span of time, people have received the show so well and are loving Anu and Arya as the lead pair.” For him, success goes beyond numbers: “Ratings are important, but longevity comes from relatability and strong storytelling.
