The Sky Is Pink director Shonali Bose on her new film A Fly On The Wall

After Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar starrer The Sky Is Pink and the anthology Modern Love: Mumbai, Shonali Bose, is set for the release of her next which is a feature documentary. The film A Fly On the Wall is set to have its world premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival next month. Post, The Sky is Pink and Margarita with a Straw, this movie marks the third collaboration between filmmakers Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali. While Nilesh had earlier co-written films with Sonali, this time he is co-directing the documentary with her, which competes in the Wide Angle - Documentary competition section of the festival.

The film highlights unique and inspiring cinematic documentary filmmaking voices from around the globe. Set against the backdrop of Switzerland, a location ironically familiar for many iconic Bollywood films, it showcases a friendship that walks the distance between life and death. It’s a tale of the choice of dignity in death and friendship.

Speaking about their selection at Busan, Shonali says, “A Fly on the Wall is an intensely personal film for us, as it follows the journey of a dear friend during a deeply difficult and transformative period in his life. It’s a reflection on choice, dignity, and the quiet strength that can emerge in our most vulnerable moments. We are humbled to premiere this film at Busan and share a story that resonates on such a personal level.”



About the story, Nilesh, elaborates saying, “The film tells the story of someone we love deeply, facing one of the most courageous moments in his life, Chika Kapadia. The film is raw, real in every way—not only in the style of shooting but also in the fact that both Chika and Shonali had the heart to be candid and true to themselves, even in the most vulnerable of moments. That’s why I hope it opens up honest conversations about physician-assisted suicide, something that is so rarely talked about. Bringing this film to Busan feels overwhelming in the best way, and I just hope it touches people the way it has touched and impacted us in making it.”
