Baazaar (2018)

Baazaar takes a deep dive into the high-stakes world of stock markets, insider trading, and corporate manipulation. Saif Ali Khan plays Shakun Kothari, a ruthless and cunning businessman who thrives on exploiting loopholes in the stock market. The film revolves around Rohan Mehra, a young man looking to make it big, who gets drawn into Kothari’s world of corruption. With its sharp dialogues, fast-paced narrative, and an unflinching look at how the stock market operates in the real world, Baazaar paints a fictional yet believable portrait of financial fraud. The performances, especially Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of a morally ambiguous character, make this film a must-watch for anyone fascinated by financial scams.

2/5

Raja Natwarlal (2014)

In Raja Natwarlal, Emraan Hashmi plays a small-time conman who, after being wronged by a powerful businessman, sets out to pull off an even bigger scam to get revenge. The film blends a personal vendetta with a complex con involving a corrupt billionaire. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, Raja Natwarlal follows the classic con story, with Emraan’s character teaming up with an older con artist, played by Paresh Rawal, to outsmart their target. The movie’s appeal lies in its clever tricks, emotional stakes, and suspense, as Raja plans a multi-step scam to expose the villain's crimes. It’s an entertaining watch, offering a mix of thrills, drama, and wit.

Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)

One of the most riveting and well-executed financial thrillers in recent years, Scam 1992 is a SonyLIV web series based on the real-life stock market scam orchestrated by Harshad Mehta in 1992. The show takes a deep dive into the intricacies of the securities scam, which shook India’s financial system. Pratik Gandhi’s stellar portrayal of the infamous stockbroker is nothing short of phenomenal. With its meticulous detailing, gripping narrative, and authentic depiction of the rise and fall of Harshad Mehta, the series captures the greed, ambition, and eventual downfall of a man who manipulated the stock market to pocket ₹5,000 crores. Scam 1992 has become a landmark in Indian OTT content, blending suspense, drama, and real-life inspiration to create a spellbinding experience.

Special 26 (2013)

Though not focused on a bank scam per se, Special 26 is a brilliant heist thriller inspired by the real-life 1987 Opera House raid in Mumbai. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher as part of a group of con artists who pose as CBI officers to conduct fake raids on wealthy businessmen. The clever ruse allows them to steal millions, all while evading the law. What makes Special 26 unique is its intelligent writing, the clever execution of the heists, and the cat-and-mouse game that keeps viewers on edge. With stellar performances and an unpredictable storyline, it’s a captivating film that shows the skill behind pulling off a scam with finesse.

5/5

The Big Bull (2021)

The Big Bull offers a more dramatized, Bollywood-style version of Harshad Mehta’s story. Starring Abhishek Bachchan as Hemant Shah, a stockbroker who manipulates the stock market to amass an empire, the film blends ambition with deception. While it doesn’t stick entirely to the factual details, the movie’s portrayal of the financial world and its unrelenting pursuit of wealth gives viewers a look into how one man’s desire to rise above the ordinary leads to his eventual undoing. Abhishek Bachchan’s powerful performance as a man who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals adds depth to the narrative, making The Big Bull an engaging and entertaining take on the financial scam genre.
