Varun Dhawan shares a 'funny yet scary' underworld call to David Dhawan; ‘My staff argued, meet me, I’ll beat you'
Varun Dhawan shared a "funny yet scary" story of underworld calls to his father David Dhawan—staff argued back hilariously. Farah Khan recalled Mukesh Duggal's murder and Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai premiere fears. Varun now awaits Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai on June 12.
In the 1990s, Bollywood faced its toughest and creepiest days under the mafia's grip. Lots of filmmakers and stars got blackmail calls. Gangsters put money into movies, and producers Gulshan Kumar and Mukesh Duggal were gunned down. Varun Dhawan just spoke about an event linked to his father, filmmaker David Dhawan.

Varun Dhawan's family threat story

In a chat with Yuvaa, Varun shared how his family got threats, but things surprisingly turned funny. He explained, “People were getting underworld calls at that time, and we were getting them too. We had been receiving them for quite some time, but we didn’t realize it because the staff was arguing with whoever was calling. The staff even gave out our full address and told the person where to meet, ‘Come meet me in that garden; I’ll beat you there,' he recalled.

“When things escalated, an actor called my dad and said that this had gone out of hand and that the person was now saying he would come with guns and that he knew our address and office timings. When my dad asked who had said this, he took the staff member’s name. So we had to stay somewhere else that day. It is funny, but it is not funny actually,” he added.

Farah Khan's on-set memory

Farah Khan once opened up about that tense time during a chat with Ranveer Allahbadia.
“I remember I was on a film set. I had just started my career when Mukesh Duggal was shot,” she said. In 1997, producer Mukesh Duggal was gunned down at his Seven Bungalows office in Andheri.

Karan Johar's premiere panic

Khan further disclosed that Karan Johar faced underworld threats right around the premiere of his debut ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.' “I don’t know about Shah Rukh getting calls, but I do know that during the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai premiere, Karan Johar had received threats from the underworld. It was very scary. Everyone was discussing whether the premiere should be cancelled or not. Security was increased, but we eventually went ahead with it. Karan was extremely stressed; imagine it’s your first film and instead of celebrating it, you’re worrying about something like this,” she said.

Varun Dhawan's film update

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is taking a work break and gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.' The movie was originally set to clash with Yash’s 'Toxic,' but the makers have now moved its release to June 12.
