Bollywood song remakes that failed to impress audiences

Bollywood has often revisited iconic songs in an attempt to recreate nostalgia for a new generation. While some remakes have managed to become chartbusters, several others failed to impress audiences who remained emotionally attached to the originals. From ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ to ‘Masakali 2.0’ and ‘Cheez Badi’, many recreated tracks faced criticism for excessive remixing, altered compositions and losing the charm that made the originals timeless classics.

2/8

‘Chunnari Chunnari’

Originally featured in ‘Biwi No.1’ and filmed on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen, ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ remains one of the most loved dance tracks of the late ’90s. While the recreated version generated curiosity among listeners, many fans felt it lacked the raw energy and playful charm that made the original so memorable. The heavy electronic treatment also received criticism for taking away the song’s desi flavour.

3/8

‘Masakali 2.0’

The remake of ‘Masakali’ from ‘Delhi-6’ became one of Bollywood’s most debated recreated tracks. The original, composed by A. R. Rahman and sung by Mohit Chauhan, was admired for its innocence and breezy vibe. However, the updated version featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria was criticised for losing the soul of the original composition. The backlash became so intense that Rahman himself publicly reacted to the remix.

4/8

‘Ek Do Teen’

When the iconic song from ‘Tezaab’ was recreated for ‘Baaghi 2’, comparisons were inevitable. The original performance by Madhuri Dixit is still considered legendary, making it difficult for any remake to match its impact. Featuring Jacqueline Fernandez, the new version faced criticism from viewers who felt it lacked the grace, expressions and magnetic screen presence associated with the original.

5/8

‘Cheez Badi’

The revamped version of ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ from ‘Machine’ managed to become commercially popular, but not everyone was impressed. The original track from ‘Mohra’, picturised on Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon, remains a cult favourite among Bollywood music lovers. Although the recreated version starring Kiara Advani and Mustafa Burmawala gained attention, several fans believed it lacked the effortless swag and nostalgia of the classic number.

6/8

‘Dus Bahane 2.0’

Reimagined for ‘Baaghi 3’, ‘Dus Bahane 2.0’ attempted to revive the stylish energy of the original song from ‘Dus’. Starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, the remix received mixed reactions from audiences. Many listeners felt the edgy early-2000s attitude of the original track could not be recreated simply through louder beats and contemporary remixing.

7/8

‘Haseeno Ka Deewana’

Featured in ‘Kaabil’ and picturised on Urvashi Rautela, ‘Haseeno Ka Deewana’ was a recreated version of the famous song ‘Sara Zamana Haseeno Ka Deewana’ from ‘Yaarana’. Fans of the original, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, felt the remake focused more on glamour and visual appeal while missing the timeless personality and musical charm that made the original iconic.

8/8

‘Sheher Ki Ladki’

The original ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’ from ‘Rakshak’, featuring Raveena Tandon and Suniel Shetty, continues to enjoy massive nostalgia among fans of ’90s Bollywood music. However, the recreated version for ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’, starring Diana Penty alongside Badshah, failed to strike the same chord with many listeners. Audiences felt the remake depended too much on flashy visuals and modern beats while losing the carefree fun of the original song.
