When Govinda revealed he was 'SCARED' about dating his wife Sunita because of THIS reason

‘Matches are made in heaven’, is a common saying that one might find humouristic, but Govinda and Sunita make you believe in it. A happily married couple for 37 years with two children - a daughter, Tina Ahuja, and a son - Yashwardhan Ahuja. However, did you know Govinda had doubts before marrying Sunita? In fact, to put it in his own words he was scared to marry her as he feared being called a child molester.


Sunita has always been vocal about their first meeting and their relationship. Being courageous, Sunita went after Govinda for a year and tried to pursue him. When they had feelings for each other, they were scared of dating as Sunita was 15, while Govinda was 21 at the time.

Sunita, the sister of Govinda’s maternal uncle’s wife, was related to him and was challenged by her relative to impress Govinda—which she definitely succeeded in. The lovebirds tied their knot in 1987, when she was 18 and he was 24.

In an old interview with Bollywood Bubble, Govinda revealed how their romance began in a car. While they were traveling to go to an event, Sunita held his hand by mistake in a moving car. He did hesitate at first, but even he didn’t let it go and later expressed their feelings in a car.

He was scared to get into a relationship with her, and further of getting married to her with the age difference and such circumstances. He asked her about whether or not she knew what she is doing, as she was young at that time. She replied by confessing her love with ‘I Love You’, and being affirmative of her intentions and gestures.

"Itni zyada yeh choti thi aur modern thi toh main darr raha tha ki aaj ki tareekh mein iss age mein log pyar karne lageinge toh kahenge child molestor. She was 15, I was 21. Toh bahut chote the hum log. Toh maine kaha 'aap bahut choti hai, pata hai ki kya keh rahi ho?' She said 'haan mujhe sab pata hai aur main chah rahi hoon ki... I love you'. Mujhe aisa laga yeh bahut choti hai yaar, yeh kya keh rahi hai (She was very young and modern. I was scared of being called a child molester for dating her. We were both young, I even told her 'You are so young, do you even know what you are saying' but she said she knows everything, and said I love you to me')," shared the actor.

The adorable couple still shares an unbreakable bond and continues to display their love to their fans. Sunita has always stood by Govinda in every thick and thin. Despite Govinda being one of the most popular actors of his time, despite him getting all the female attention, she was very secure in her relationship; and that perhaps laid the strong foundation on their marriage. However, recently, she joked that now that Govinda has turned 60, she is more cautious of what he does.
