Many Bollywood films continue to reveal hidden details years after their release. One such moment from 'Duplicate' has resurfaced among movie lovers and nostalgia fans. The brief sequence became memorable because of its unexpected reference to one of Shah Rukh Khan's most iconic characters. Though the moment appears only for a few seconds, viewers still remember it because of the unusual connection created between two films featuring
Shah Rukh Khan and
Kajol.
Kajol made a brief but memorable appearance
Kajol appeared in 'Duplicate' through an uncredited cameo role. Even though her screen time lasted for only a short duration, the sequence created a lasting impact among audiences. The moment takes place at a railway station where Bablu Chaudhry, played by Shah Rukh Khan, is saying goodbye to his mother.
Farida Jalal played the role of his mother in the film. Bablu is shown in an emotional state and appears distracted while walking around the crowded platform after the farewell moment.
Bablu's proposal leads to an unexpected reaction
As Bablu walks through the station, Kajol unexpectedly appears as a passerby crossing the platform. Seeing her, Bablu suddenly approaches her and reacts impulsively. Without any warning, he folds his hands and says, "Behenji, aap mujhse shaadi karogi?" Kajol immediately reacts with confusion and dismisses him without showing any interest in the interaction. Instead of responding to him directly, she turns away and shouts, "Raj!" She quickly exits the scene and leaves Bablu standing there in complete confusion.
DDLJ connection became the real joke behind the scene
The scene worked because audiences immediately recognised the reference linked to 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. Shah Rukh Khan's character in that film was named Raj, making Kajol's dialogue a clever callback for fans. The joke became even more interesting because Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan were one of Bollywood's most loved on-screen pairs. Their chemistry in 'DDLJ' had already become hugely popular by that time. Another interesting connection involved Farida Jalal. The actress had played Kajol's mother in 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' and later played Shah Rukh Khan's mother in 'Duplicate'.
Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, 'Duplicate' featured Shah Rukh Khan in his first double role. The actor played two completely different characters in the film. One character was Bablu, a soft-hearted chef, while the other was a feared gangster. The film also starred Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre in important roles.
Although the film did not perform as expected commercially during its theatrical run, it gradually gained nostalgic value among audiences.
