When Rani Mukerji praised Malayalam film 'The Great Indian Kitchen'; Prithviraj Sukumaran became the messenger

Rani Mukerji, who is now in the spotlight for her new film 'Mardaani 3', once shared her love for the Malayalam movie 'The Great Indian Kitchen'. This happened back in 2021, when she watched the film and really liked it. She felt the movie was very strong and very honest. She liked it so much that she wanted to send her message directly to the director, Jeo Baby.

Prithviraj became the messenger of Rani Mukerji

Filmmaker Jeo Baby later shared a very sweet moment with everyone. He said that actor Prithviraj Sukumaran sent him a message on WhatsApp. It was a message from Rani Mukerji to him. Prithviraj wrote, “Hi Geo. This is Prithviraj. Rani Mukerji saw your film and wanted me to convey to you what she thought is the Great Indian Kitchen (sic)… PS: I am yet to see the film, but congrats on the great success.”




After that, Prithviraj sent Rani’s own words. Her message said, “…there’s a film called The Great Indian kitchen… I saw it … and thought it was brilliant!!! Pls can you tell the director that I lovedd the film and it’s one of the greatest Indian films made in recent times..”

The film meant something personal to Jeo Baby

Jeo Baby earlier spoke in an interview with The Quint about the movie and what inspired him. He said that he got the idea from his own life. He explained, “After my marriage, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, I did it because I wanted to share the space with my wife. When I entered the kitchen, I was practically stuck there, it was totally frustrating because there is a huge workload. It’s an endless job is what I felt at that time and I thought about all the women who are stuck in the kitchen and I felt like the kitchen is a jail for a woman’s life.”

Why The Great Indian Kitchen stands out

The movie talks about how many women spend their whole lives doing housework that nobody notices. It shows how tiring cooking and cleaning can be when you are expected to do it every day without a break. The film also shows how society judges women more for their cooking than for their other talents. Many people said the film made them think deeply.

ETimes review for the film says, "Jeo Baby has brilliantly scripted and directed the movie by bringing in the contemporary socio-political scenario of Kerala. Nimisha and Suraj, who played a couple in Thondimuthalum Drisksakshiyum, put on convincing performances. Mruduladevi and Dhanya Suresh Menon have penned songs of women, composed by Sooraj S Kurup. Cinematography and editing too have to be mentioned."
