Could SRK’s ‘Happy New Year’ be a bigger hit than Salman’s ‘Kick’?

With just a few days left for the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Happy New Year to release, there is lot of excitement among his fans. Since the movie seems to be high on drama, romance and comedy and boasts of a sizzling chemistry between King Khan and Deepika Padukone, there is buzz in the industry that the movie will be a sure shot winner and will rock the box-office. However, with Salman Khan's recent movie Kick crossing the 200 crore mark at the box-office, we bring out reasons that suggest why Happy New Year could be a bigger hit than Kick.

Star cast: Happy New Year is a multi-starrer that has the talented Abhishek Bachchan, the dashing Sonu Sood, the funny Boman Irani and the newbie Vivaan Shah, besides starring Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. With such a dynamic cast, the movie will surely be liked by all. In spite of having so many actors, director Farah Khan seems to have given equal footage to all her actors. They seem well defined and each of them enjoy an equal amount of screen space. This will definitely work in the film's favour as fans will get to see their idols pull off the biggest diamond heist ever. Kick, on the other hand, boasted of Salman Khan. Though the movie also had Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles, the movie was largely appreciated because of the Dabangg star.

Chemistry between the lead couple: Whenever Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been paired opposite each other, they have scorched the screen and rocked the box-office with their chemistry. Be it Om Shanti Om or Chennai Express, the USPs of these blockbuster hit films was the chemistry between the lead pair. Happy New Year seems the two of them being cast together once again. SRK and Deepika's camaraderie and chemistry will surely be the talking point of the film. In comparison, while Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez’s chemistry was appreciated in Kick, they have done only one film together and unlike SRK and Deepika's jodi, audiences aren't used to seeing them together. Today, Deepika and Shahrukh are one of the most popular onscreen couples on the silver screen.

Complete package: Like most Farah Khan movies, Happy New Year seems to be a complete entertainer and offers everything that will make it a must watch during this festive season. Be it the dialogues, drama, action, comedy, dance, music or a dynamic star cast, HNY has it all. If this is not enough, the film is slated to release a day after Diwali, hence cashing in on the festive season. The extravagant sets will make the movie a visual treat.

Shah Rukh’s marketing fundas: When it comes to marketing and film promotions, Shah Rukh Khan is simply unbeatable. He does an excellent job in promoting his films and as a result, they do so well at the box-office. Besides doing regular press conferences and coming on reality shows, SRK conducted worldwide shows with the film's cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood and Boman Irani, ahead of the film's release. Called Slam! The Tour, SRK and his team performed in the US and UK. The organisers and promoters of the 'SLAM! The Tour' cashed in on the hype and each show was reportedly estimated to make around seven crores. A Mumbai Mirror report dated July 3 has estimated that these shows will have made around Rs 200 crores even before the film hits the theatres.

The lucky trio: Director Farah Khan had first cast Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone together in Om Shanti Omb and the film did extremely well at the box-office. The expectations from Happy New Year are high as the duo return once again for a Farah Khan film. Farah is a great director who understands the pulse of the audience and makes very entertaining movies. She has made sure that the scenes are shot lavishly in Dubai and has out together a dream team by casting all her favourites- Shah Rukh, Deepika and Boman Irani. Well we sure think that this lucky team will do wonders at the box-office too and could give tough competition to Salman Khan's Kick.
