Esha Deol to play Chef in Ram Kamal’s ‘Cakewalk’

Esha Deol is all set to make a comeback with a Hindi short film titled ‘Cakewalk’ to be directed by Hema Malini’s biographer turned director Ram Kamal Mukherjee. She will be playing the role of a Chef in the film, depicting the professional and personal journey of a woman in our society.

Speaking about the same, Esha said, “The idea of making a film came into Ram Kamal’s mind while he was interviewing me for his book on my mother.” While the director says Esha is the one who inspired him to direct the film.

The story and screenplay have been penned by Ram Kamal. The film will be co-directed by Abhra Chakraborty, who assisted National Award winning Bengali director Bappaditya Bandhopadhya in ‘Elar Chaar Adhyay’.

An Oxford alumni

Not many would know about this but the actress did her Bachelor's in Computer Technology from Oxford University and further pursued Masters in Media Arts for higher education. She later decided to join the acting line of her parents and became a second-generation actress. She started her acting career in a lead role with Vinay Shukla's ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe’ (2002) opposite Aftab Shivdasani, with Sanjay Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher playing supporting roles.

Love and appreciation for debut

While the Deol girl may have received mixed response from the critics, fans wanted to see more of her. The actress went on to bag eight awards for her debut back in 2002. Deol won numerous awards for her performance including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut at the 48th Filmfare Awards. Her second film was Arjun Sablok's love triangle 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum' opposite Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

While her mother and veteran actress Hema Malini is known for her dancing skills, daughters Esha and Ahana are also not far behind in this race. Deol trained in the Odissi dancing style under Mumbai guru Rabindra Atibuddhi. She is also trained in classical Bharatanatyam by her mother and is often seen performing with her. The trio set the stage on fire every time they perform together and it is stellar to watch them sway to the taal.
