Malavika Mohanan: Interesting facts about ‘Beyond the Clouds’ actress

Bollywood has always welcomed talent from down South with open arms which is absolutely wonderful. One more talent which is setting foot in the Hindi film industry from Mollywood is the gorgeous Malavika Mohanan who will be making a debut in Majid Majidi’s ‘Beyond the Clouds’. Her sultry beauty has made everyone go weak in the knees and the fact that not much is known about her has left fans intrigued about her personal life. Here are some of the unknown facts about ‘Beyond the Clouds’ actress which we bet you didn’t know.

Malavika Mohanan had a grand debut opposite Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan in ‘Pattam Pole’. Born to cinematographer K.U. Mohanan, Malavika has always been around the glamour world. Her father has worked in several Bollywood projects which include ‘Raees’, ‘Don’, ‘Talaash’ and ‘Fukrey’. Her first outing in ‘Pattam Pole’ was unfortunately criticised and failed to leave the audience impressed. The film was a love story between a Brahmin boy, Karthik (Dulquer Salmaan), and a Christian girl, Riya (Malavika Mohanan).

She has finally set foot in Bollywood to make a mark with her debut opposite Ishaan Khatter in ‘Beyond the Clouds’. While her debut film ‘Pattam Pole’ did not garner box-office numbers, surprisingly her next film ‘Nirnayakam’ won her a special jury award at a reputed award ceremony for her performance in the movie. Malavika has also appeared in several advertisements which fetched her much needed limelight.

Even though she is a newbie in Bollywood, Malavika has done movies in both Malayalam and Kannada. Being a prominent face down South, apart from ‘Pattam Pole’ and ‘Nirnayakam’, she has shot for two other movies as well which have reportedly been delayed due to unknown reasons. Malavika who will be seen next in ‘Beyond the Clouds’ got her big break in Bollywood after reportedly replacing Deepika Padukone.

As per reports, Malavika was handpicked by Majid Majidi himself as the lead actress for his upcoming Hindi movie, ‘Beyond the Clouds’. Another star child to make a debut with this film is Shahid Kapoor's younger brother, Ishaan Khatter. The shooting of this critically acclaimed movie which has been showcased in several international film festivals has been wrapped up. Both the stars of the film are currently busy promoting it across platforms.

Recently when Malavika was asked about getting less attention as compared to Ishaan she reportedly said that since Ishaan has an identity of being Shahid Kapoor’s brother, it is obvious that he will get the attention. Emphasising on his family background and his collaboration with Karan Johar in ‘Dhadak’, Malavika also claimed that the attention he gets is justified.

Malavika is a hardcore Mumbai girl despite hailing from God’s Own Country, Kerala. She was born in Kannur in Payyanur but she has lived almost all of her life in Mumbai. She studied Mass Media from Mumbai’s Wilson College. She also owns her very own fashion blog that goes by the ‘The Scarlet Window’ and it is a clear proof that she is a true fashionista by choice. Apart from an interest in acting, this girl also has an activist hidden inside. During her college days, she was a part of a campaign against eve-teasing- ‘Chappal Maarungi’.

‘Beyond the Clouds’ is directed by Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi and the film dwells on the adoration of love, life and nuanced human relationships. Following its premiere at the 2017 BFI London Film Festival, the movie is scheduled to release on April 20th, 2018 in three languages. Talking on the lines of getting a Bollywood debut in a rather off-beat film, Malavika said how it’s not really important to have a big banner attached to your back all the time. She believes to do things as per her liking and not succumb to industry pressures which will eventually result in failures.
