Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan’s alleged relationship

Back in September, some pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan spending time together in New York made their way online. Images of the actress smoking with Kapoor were met with a great backlash from some sections on her choice of outfit and the fact that she was smoking in public. Ranbir released a statement a few days later, but Mahira kept a low-profile for quite a while and did not talk about the incident. According to reports, Mahira found the opportunity to speak on the controversy in an interview while promoting her upcoming film. She said that she definitely wanted to talk about it and she’s a very strong woman but when all of this happened, she was completely "shattered and broken". She would think about posting a statement every day but would stop herself because she just wouldn’t know what to say.

‘Power Di Game’ (a song from her film) was ready to be released, which she thought was perfect timing, so she just posted that as sort of a response to the trolls. Mahira added that she understands where all the criticism came from and that it didn’t come from a place of hate, acknowledging not the trolls, but those who were genuinely disappointed to see those pictures. “It’s the same disappointment that my nani or my mamoo would have felt seeing that So even now when I meet an older lady who says that she didn’t like the pictures, I’m quick to apologize," she said. Mahira stated that while she was a role model for her fans, she wasn't perfect either; as any human, she makes mistakes. She was however happy that people had stood up for her back home in Pakistan. She believes the narrative in Pakistan is changing and she is happy to be part of it.

It wasn’t too long ago when fans woke up to pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan from their secret meet-up in New York City. The viral clicks didn’t just stir up a controversy for the Pakistani actress but also had rumour mongers guessing if there was something more to their relationship than what met the eye. There are times when I’m at a certain place with certain people and I don’t want those private moments to be captured by anyone. But, you can’t help it. You got to take the bad with the good. I get to do what I love to do and I make a lot of money. But some things are irritating and you’ve got to take them in your stride. It’s a crazy world.”
The ‘Padmavati’ star also went on to share some food for thought for Mahira, who braved a wave of hate and criticism after the pictures went viral. Ranveer said, “Everyone has their own interpretation. Everyone has their own set of values. Everyone has an opinion. You can hear them but you needn’t subscribe to them. At the end of the day, one should just live and let live and focus on more important things. Mahira is a great performer and an entertainer. One should ideally just engage with her at just that level.”
Ranveer will be seen playing the antagonist Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial which also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor. The magnum opus is set to hit theatres on 1 December 2017.
