She said that after her marriage, she gained weight, her skin got a bit bad and she also developed dark circles. But she wants all the girls to know that having all these things is totally okay.

She further added that in India, there is a lot of pressure, be it about marriage, education, skin, short hair, drinking and more.

When the topic turned to why men in love are not shown, Sonam added that how society likes to direct how men and women love and it includes everything, from ethnicity to a lot of other things.

Society being the barrier in such thing, on that, Sonam said that people need to understand that one's sexuality is something one is born with, be it a man or a woman, it's on that person to be a woman or a man. But now, after section 377 being revoked, she hopes that homosexuality isn't looked like a crime.

It was important to show her as simple and ordinary because a gay girl is still a regular girl. They apparently didn't want to stereotype her. She also spoke about Kuhu’s character. According to her, if the story was bent towards developing their relationship, it would have taken away from showing what the girl's father or her grandmother goes through, or how her brother treats it as a sickness.

Shelly Chopra’s ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ also stars Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Juhi Chawla, Regina Cassandra and others in pivotal roles. The film hit the theatres on February 1, 2019.

Sonam, in an interview recently, opened up about how she was approached and convinced by the filmmaker to be part of the film. She reportedly said that a producer met her at National Awards and messaged her after it saying Shelly is working on this film. Initially, Sonam felt it was a joke. Later, she came to know Gazal Dhaliwal is the writer of the film who she knew from before. So she was quite excited to work with her.

After she was narrated the scrip, she felt it was amazing and gave her nod for the film. However, she was curious as to who will play her father’s character. Shelly expressed her desire to cast Anil Kapoor for it and even Sonam thought it would be a great idea. When Anil was also given a narration of the script, he too reportedly loved it.

In the wake of the #MeToo movement in India, Sonam Kapoor was among the first few actresses to come forward and voice her support towards Tanushree Dutta, who had alleged that she was harassed by Nana Patekar. However, at a recent event, the actress was reportedly questioned about her views on ‘Queen’ director Vikas Bahl also being accused of sexual harassment and Kangana Ranaut coming forward to verify the claims. Reports claimed that the actress lent her support to the ‘Manikarnika’ star for taking a stand against Vikas, but allegedly said “it's hard to take Kangana Ranaut seriously."

This prompted Ranaut, to lash out at Kapoor for “judging her” story. “What does she mean by saying, 'it's hard to believe Kangana'? When I am sharing my Me Too story, who gives her a right to judge me? So, Sonam Kapoor has the license of trusting some women and some she won't," said the 31-year-old.

Sonam, who recently took a break from Twitter, addressed this unpleasant exchange saying that “irresponsible media have misquoted me or taken my quote out of context.” Urging women to stand together, she wrote, “Women need to stand together! irresponsible media have misquoted me or taken my quote out of context and made other women react. All I want to say is that all I have is compassion and love for you. I’m proud of where I come from and so should every other woman or man. Let’s stand together and speak up. Let’s not pull each other down with bitterness and negativity. Love is always the answer.”

A source revealed to a daily that Sonam will be interacting with a few media portals promoting the movie in London while vacationing. She intends to go all out to promote Sanju as she has always wanted to work with Raju Hirani. She wants to bring global attention to this homegrown movie.

The source further added that during the promotions of her last two releases – ‘PadMan’ and ‘Veere Di Wedding’ -there was a lot of attention around her then-impending wedding. But with ‘Sanju’, she wants the spotlight solely on the film. That's why Sonam decided to talk to the UK press, as their vein of interviews is different with an emphasis on the professional aspects of a movie.

Sonam Kapoor who has been basking on the success of her last outing ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is currently taking a break from her professional commitments to enjoy some leisure time in London. She had revealed a few weeks ago that she’d love to direct a film with Swara Bhasker in the lead.

Talking about it, Sonam said in an interview to a daily that she has found couple of scripts which are mostly ready, but it will still take time to work on and finalise them. She further added that she might do something (with regard to directing a film) in a year or two. Sonam also revealed that she intends to continue acting and direct as well, but not in the same film, but at the same time.

When asked about her motivation to become a director, she said that directors she has worked with encouraged her to take up direction. Sonam professed that be it Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aanand L. Rai, R. Balki or Ram Madhvani- any director that she worked with has told her, ‘Please direct (a film). Since she has projects lined up in her kitty already, she assured that it’s surely not happening right now, as she needs to take some time off to direct. So, it could be two or three years.

Everyone is conditioned to think that way. It becomes a blemish. In India, it is so prevalent, eve teasing — every girl has been experiencing it since college where guys are hooting at them, that’s also harassment.

She further added that she doesn’t see the change happening any time soon. Women are hard pressed for stories, for roles. There is no equal pay. And she didn’t only talk about female actors. Recalling an incident, she mentioned that while talking to a guy who sought her help, he explained that he’s trying to hire a person wherein he had two people in mind — a guy, and a girl, who was married. He apparently told Sonam that she may get pregnant and won’t be able to work properly. Sonam then said that people hold these preconceived notions about women.

Further recounting her own experiences, Sonam reportedly shared that when she had gone to a theatre to watch a Raveena Tandon film, a man came behind her and molested her. And people said that’s not molestation. This is harassment. And somebody from her team asked her to not speak about it since her movie was about to release. She emphasized that she was amused when her team asked her to not call herself a feminist.
