Sonam Kapoor recently spoke to a daily about the same and revealed how as actors they have to constantly defend their doings. She averred how questions like whether they are working hard, whether they are a feminist or not, whether they are getting married or not or whether they are having a child or not, they have to keep defending themselves.
She raised an important concern and questioned as to when can there be a point where there is acceptance? Sonam has always kept her personal life under wraps and despite several speculations around her relationship status, she never uttered a word about her love life to the media or peers.
Earlier when Sonam was asked by a daily about her idea of perfect romance, her reply was all things filmy. The self-confessed romantic actress revealed shyly that for her romance is not only about a romantic relationship. She believes that it is idealism, it is believing that the sky will always be blue, birds will always chirp and life will always get better. She also professed that she is just an internal optimist.
When she was further asked about the most romantic thing she has done for her partner, she simply said how little things matter to her. Observation, understanding and minute things like the kind of coffee the partner drinks matter to her the most as compared to the grand gestures.
She also averred that while she is a public figure and has signed up for her life to be in front of the media, her partner, on the other hand, hasn’t done that. One of the main reasons why she kept her personal life under wraps is because she feels that she can talk everything about herself, but the moment it involves another person, she doesn’t have the liberty to do that.
Sonam Kapoor says she was refrained by her team to not call herself a feminist
Sonam Kapoor may have once been termed as someone having her foot in the mouth; however, with time, the ‘Neerja’ actor has certainly become more mature. But that shouldn’t be presumed to Sonam not calling a spade, a spade. With the prevailing #Metoo movement in regards to the alarming sexual harassment, Sonam Kapoor told a leading daily on similar cases back home and more.
Sonam reportedly opined that there should be a movement like #Metoo here. Unfortunately, in India, there’s a lot of shame attached to it. If something happens to someone, he/she just smiles and pretends to be dumb. They just ignore it, pretend it didn’t happen because if they speak about it, they will get into more trouble. Everyone is conditioned to think that way. It becomes a blemish. In India, it is so prevalent, eve teasing — every girl has been experiencing it since college where guys are hooting at them, that’s also harassment.
She further added that she doesn’t see the change happening any time soon. Women are hard pressed for stories, for roles. There is no equal pay. And she didn’t only talk about female actors. Recalling an incident, she mentioned that while talking to a guy who sought her help, he explained that he’s trying to hire a person wherein he had two people in mind — a guy, and a girl, who was married. He apparently told Sonam that she may get pregnant and won’t be able to work properly. Sonam then said that people hold these preconceived notions about women.
Further recounting her own experiences, Sonam reportedly shared that when she had gone to a theatre to watch a Raveena Tandon film, a man came behind her and molested her. And people said that’s not molestation. This is harassment. And somebody from her team asked her to not speak about it since her movie was about to release. She emphasized that she was amused when her team asked her to not call herself a feminist.

She said she wasn't sure if they are fake profiles who are hired to write such stuff by whoever, but they should be reported for abuse and blocked. She feels that one should also know that they are being talked about only because they are relevant. And finally, she said, just be positive and happy knowing that there are people who love you for who you are.

Those following the film’s social media handles will be well aware of the camaraderie the four co-stars share. Speaking on the same, Sonam said that it is important to get along with any co-star be-it a man or woman. Having a good rapport, she says, is important as she thinks one would have to be a fantastic actor to pretend to like someone.
