Times when Ranbir Kapoor ran into controversies

The Kapoor grandson has led quite a tumultuous life with almost everything that he’s done getting in the limelight ever since he became an actor. Ranbir Kapoor recently turned producer with his last release ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and even that was not without any controversy. Here’s taking a look at times when Ranbir Kapoor ran into controversies.

Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone created a storm with their remarks about a certain ex that they shared in common. The two beauties took pot-shots at Ranbir at Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’. Sonam said “Ranbir is a great friend but I don’t know if he’s a great boyfriend. Honestly speaking. He’s a really nice guy. He’s got family values, He’s really respectful. I’ve known Ranbir all my life. But as a boyfriend I don’t know. She (Deepika) did a great job hanging around that long.” While Deepika suggested he endorses a condom brand. Ranbir shot back at Sonam by calling her a ‘drama queen’.

‘Jagga Jasoos’, starring Ranbir and alleged former girlfriend Katrina Kaif, was mired in a controversy over Govinda’s role being chopped off from the film. Govinda’s look was leaked, but later, director Anurag Basu confirmed that they had removed his part as the story had changed. Later, Govinda went on a Twitter rant against the makers of the film, stating that he had given his 100 percent to the film even though he was unwell. Ranbir, also the co-producer of the film, then apologized to Govinda for chopping off his role. He admitted that the entire track was chopped off because of Anurag and him. He revealed that they had begun the film without a complete script in hand. By the time the movie moved forward, the character had completely changed.

Ranbir said that it would be very irresponsible and unfair to cast someone like Govinda and not do justice to his role. He added that it was very unfortunate the way things had worked out. They had to think of the best for their film and had to cut the track out.

Until the pictures found their way online, Ranbir and Katrina Kaif were steadfast in dismissing all rumours of them dating. The now separated couple were spotted holidaying on the shores of Ibiza and the shutterbugs had a field day. Ranbir had later claimed that this invasion of their privacy had distressed him tremendously. Later it was rumoured that Katrina had accompanied Ranbir to Sri Lanka on the sets of ‘Bombay Velvet’.

Rumours made rounds during the wedding of Salman Khan's sister Arpita in Hyderabad that Ranbir Kapoor was not on the guest list. However, his alleged girlfriend at the time, Katrina Kaif was invited by her ex-lover. This further added fuel to the fire that Salman and Ranbir were still not on talking terms and the former was still mad at him.

Ranbir accepted the allegations of infidelity by saying, “Yes, I have, out of immaturity out of inexperience, out of taking advantage of certain temptations, out of callousness. You realise it now when you grow up and you value it more, why be in a relationship. Why be committed to someone when you can’t be committed.”

Major parts of the song ‘Sadda Haq’ were shot at the Norbulingka monastery in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala and people waving the Free Tibet flag in the backdrop were shown in the song video. This triggered a dispute between Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Imtiaz Ali when the Board asked Ali to blur the flag before the film hit the theatre, but the director refused to do it initially. Some fans of Tibetan origin took to protesting against the Censor Board’s demands of ushering in censorship by blurring Free Tibet banners in the film.
