Vardhan Puri: Interesting facts about Amrish Puri’s grandson

Although superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and young actors like Varun Dhawan and Rajkummar Rao continue to rule Bollywood, there is no denial to the fact that it is about time we welcome the new generation in the industry. With star kids like Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday and Sara Ali Khan making their foray into Bollywood, the change has already begun. Joining the bandwagon is yet another budding actor from a filmy family and he is none other than grandson on late legendary actor Amrish Puri, Vardhan Puri. Here is all you need to know about the star kid.

Training and guidance

Being born in a family where he grew up with his actor grandfather Amrish Puri, the line came very naturally to Vardhan. He started training since the age of five under the guidance of his grandfather’s mentor National Award-winning actor filmmaker-writer Satyadev Dubey.

Through the years, he has also been a part of over 90 plays. The budding star has also reportedly trained under the guidance of acting gurus like Athar Nawaz, Neeraj Kabi, Vidur Chaturvedi, Mujeeb Khan and Faezeh Jalali.

Early works

Vardhan got tutelage under the one and only Satyadev Dubey. However, it wasn’t easy for him. Speaking about the same, he had reportedly said that initially, he used to make him work backstage, serving tea to the cast and crew, cleaning the stage and other small things. Later, he recalled that he started getting small roles. He also added that he got his first lead role when he was in his teens.

The budding actor has reportedly assisted Habib Faisal on ‘Ishaqzaade’ and ‘Daawat-e-Ishq’ and also Maneesh Sharma in ‘Shudh Desi Romance’.

Bollywood debut

After working in about 90 plays, Vardhan Puri has finally bagged his first Bollywood film. The young lad will reportedly be seen in a romantic thriller to be produced by Jayantilal Gada. It will apparently be a performance-oriented role. As far as the film is concerned, it is touted to be on the lines of ‘Gone Girl’ by David Fincher.

According to the reports, Vardhan was first approached for a period drama by Jayantilal Gada. However, things did not seem to have worked out fine. Later, he was offered the script of this romantic thriller which he immediately loved and gave his nod for.

The makers have reportedly started looking for the female lead for the film. The makers are currently conducting a recce in Shimla and Delhi.

Ode to his grandpa

Vardhan reportedly has a strong has a strong inclination towards writing and direction. However, the budding star had revealed that his first love will always be acting. Besides, the young lad says that this will be an ode to his late grandfather Amrish Puri.

Speaking about the same, Vardhan had said that his grandfather was next to God for him under whom he trained since the age of five. He revealed that he used to sleep between his grandparents and was very close to them. The legendary actor’s demise was like losing a protective cover of an umbrella for the aspiring actor. He added that it was then that he decided that he would do something for his grandfather and this film will be an ode to him.

Memories to cherish

Growing up with the late legendary actor Amrish Puri was nothing less than a blessing for his grandson Vardhan. Now all grown up, the actor is all set to make his grandpa proud by taking his first step in Bollywood.

Talking about cherishing all his childhood memories with him, the budding actor said that he really misses him a lot. Remembering the times they spent together, he revealed that they would watch films of Dilip Kumar saab, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and also binge on some ever classic films like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The Shawshank Redemption’.

He also added that he used to attend reading sessions of the actor when filmmakers came to their house. Amrish Puri’s films with Shyam Bengal and Govind Nihalani are apparently one of his all-time favourites.
