Opening about her act, the actress said, “It is my ninth year at Cannes and the festival is one of the most cogent platforms to raise the issue of child prostitution not just in India but across the world. Being locked in a cage, I wanted to drive home the imagery of how young girls who are being trafficked are trapped in a small 12x8 foot room. These innocent victims have to live and survive without any aid. There is a woman suffering abuse every minute with no hope of any change. So I thought of doing my bit and raising awareness about an issue which needs to become extinct at the earliest.”

Actress Mallika Sherawat has expressed her displeasure over increasing number of rape cases in India. She has said that from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, the country has become a land of gang rapists.

Mallika was interacting with the media at the special screening of 'Daas Dev' on Wednesday when she made the comparison.

President Ram Nath Kovind on April 22 approved an ordinance to provide a death penalty for those convicted of raping girls younger than 12 years.

The actress said, "I think what's happening with women and children of this country is absolutely shameful. From the land of Gandhi, we have become a land of gang rapists and I think it's the media in the country that is really a strong force today. So all hopes are pinned on the media."

"If it's not in the media, then nobody would know about these cases. I think because of pressure from the media, these new laws have been enforced. So we are really thankful to the media for this," she added.

She also said, "We haven't been able to protect women and children of our country and I have been reading about such kind of crimes on a daily basis in newspapers."

Long before veganism became a fad all over the world, Mallika Sherawat had already embraced this trend. In Mallika’s words, she has been a vegan for 15 years.
Mallika has already been giving us fitness goals with her photos in different yoga poses and now she is looking to spearhead the vegan movement in India.
Being a vegan means shunning all sorts of animal products, including milk, and milk products. It’s a step further from being a vegetarian because typical milk derivative products like yogurt, ghee, butter, and cheese are also cut out of the diet. The movement has caught on especially in the United States, with several vegan restaurants cropping up.
Mallika noticed many different vegan restaurants and vegan alternative foods in the USA. Given the rising levels of obesity in India, she has now decided to promote veganism.
For a milk obsessed country, she has decided to change this by tying up with a friend’s restaurant chain. Her love for vegan food comes from her favorite high-end vegan that she raves about.
She said, “Yes I have a lot of plans to promote veganism in India. I’m joining hands with a friend’s restaurant to introduce vegan offerings to the Indian palate. I plan to rope in international chefs to whip up some delicious dishes. Once people see how nutritious and delicious vegan food can be, they’ll switch to a healthier dairy-free lifestyle.”
With her continued focus on health, this will definitely be another feather in her cap and provide a boost to the vegan movement in India.

Mallika Sherawat has found herself in the news again, this time for a reported eviction notice served to her and French tycoon “husband” of two years, Cyrille Auxenfans. French, British and Indian news portals ran stories about the same in the past days alleging that the couple reportedly owes nearly 80,000 euros (approximately Rs 61 lakh) in unpaid rent and a French court will rule on the dispute this week.

According to reports, Mallika issued a statement denying all such claims saying that she didn’t own or rent an apartment in Paris and that she didn’t know why her name was being dragged into the matter. While reports quoted a lawyer dismissing claims that the couple is facing financial difficulties, the former actress claimed that she didn’t even know the lawyer.
While hitting out at these reports, Mallika also said that Cyrille Auxenfans, rumoured to be her husband, was just her “friend.” Questioning why her private life was being dragged into the matter, she made it clear that “Cyrille is not my husband.”

Mallika was rumoured to be in a romantic relationship with the French tycoon after she went public on Instagram and even brought the hunk home to Mumbai.

Mallika Sherawat has denied that she has an apartment in Paris at all, in response to media reports that she is being evicted from it for unpaid dues. In a tweet, Mallika said, "Some in the media seem to think I have an apartment in Paris. It's absolutely not true. If someone has donated one to me, please send me the address." International media outlets reported that Mallika and her French boyfriend Cyrille Auxenfans owed about Rs. 64 lakh in rent arrears and that a Paris court will hear the matter.

Mallika, however, denies that she has a flat in Paris. The apartment, reportedly located in the 16th Arrondissement, from which Mallika and Cyrille have supposedly been evicted is also where the couple was allegedly attacked and robbed last year. The media reports suggested that they have not paid the rent to show their annoyance about the alleged robbery.

According to a report in Pinkvilla.com, Mallika Sherawat has said that camps and groups are not important for her and that she wants to be an independent woman who can take care of herself. She further stated that she was the only actor to have met US President, Barack Obama, twice and further asserted that she was happy where she was.

However, according to Mumbai Mirror report, the actress recently pulled a surprise during the promo launch of her next film, Dirty Politics. Replete with sexual innuendos, Mallika mouthing cuss words and a still of the actress sitting draped in nothing but the tricolour on a beaconed car, the trailer has plenty to raise eyebrows, the report states. Mallika plays Anokhi Devi, an item girl turned politician whose dialogue includes lines like, “Anokhi apna ghaaghra jhatkegi toh tere jaisa chalees ch***e niklenge." She also gyrates to a risqué track, 'Mere ghaaghre ke liye ghamasaan machi hai'. According to the report in Mumbai Mirror, the film has been passed with an 'A' certificate but without any cuts. Mirror quotes an official from the Censor Board on condition of anonymity, “There was a lot of uproar after the screening as the members couldn't agree on what to cut and what to retain. Finally, the film was sent to the revising committee and they decided to give it a go ahead without any cuts."

Mallika maintains that the film is rooted in real events and so needed to express the same. “The setting of the film demands that we portray exactly how men or women talk in small rural centres. My director (KC Bokadia) wanted to establish that milieu. Anokhi comes from a poor family, dances to make ends meet and then joins politics. The people she deals with require her to be free with her language. I am doing what the film requires of me and am comfortable with that," Mumbai Mirror report quoted Mallika. And it is not just Mallika who is turning the air blue. Internationally renowned actor Om Puri, who plays a politician being blackmailed by Mallika after a one-night stand, states, “Ek baar so kya liya, jaan par ban aayi bh****," the report further states. The film boasts other notable names like Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and Jackie Shroff.

She's bold and feisty and not one to mince her words. Mallika Sherawat has come a long way and her journey in Bollywood has been an interesting one. The former model has challenged herself with bold roles in films like Murder and Khwahish and is often considered as a sex symbol. But with this tag, Mallika has been the cynosure of all eyes and the actress has often courted controversy for her bold statements and opinions.

Tricolour controversy: Mallika Sherawat will be seen in filmmaker KC Bokadia's Dirty Politics where Mallika seems to have gone all out to play her role to the tee, as the trailer suggests. But what has not gone well with some sections of society is Mallika sitting on the top of an Ambassador car with a beacon, right outside the State legislative Assembly of Rajasthan, holding a CD in her hand, but draped only in the Indian tricolour. According to reports, Bokadia admitted to the poster being provocative but was not essentially the Indian flag as the Ashoka Chakra was missing from the centre. The film is rumoured to be based on the life of Jodhpur's ANM Bhanwari Devi sex scandal.

Partying with Antonio Banderas: Just less than three weeks after Desperado star Anotnio Banderas announced his split from Melani Griffith, his wife of 18 years, there were rumours doing the rounds that Mallika Sherawat was allegedly one of the reasons. The Bollywood actress was seen partying with the Hollywood hunk at Cannes in a video reportedly leaked to the media. But Mallika denied these allegations. In her exclusive interview to E! News, she was quoted as saying, "Antonio Banderas is a wonderful man, a great dancer and an acquaintance of mine. I did not go on any vacation with him, and I'm sorry he's going through a divorce."

Kissing a contestant on a reality show: Mallika sure seemed to make headlines when she decided to do the reality show, The Bachelorette India Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika where contestants wooed her and she chose her companion, although she did not promise marriage or an engagement. While the show generated a lot of curiosity as to who would Mallika choose, what shocked viewers was when she kissed one contestant while on a date. First woman to kiss on-screen in Bollywood: Mallika Sherawat created quite a stir when she went on record to say that she was the first actress to kiss on screen. In her interview to Variety Magazine: Cannes Edition, she said India was a hypocritical society and she was the first actress to kiss on-screen. Not only that, she went a step further to state that she was also the first actress in B-town to wear a bikini. These statements of hers did not go down well with Indian movie goers and the media who responded by saying that it was not Mallika but Devika Rani who first kissed on the silver screen way back in 1933 for four long minutes in the film Karma.
