Shiv Jayanti 2026: ‘Shivba Raja', ‘Ghamand Kar’; Songs to play in the honour of warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti brings renewed attention to the cinematic songs that celebrate the Maratha warrior king’s legacy whose principles of courage, justice and Swarajya continue to inspire generations. Bollywood and Marathi cinema have contributed several powerful tracks that honour his memory and let's take a look at a few of them.

2/5

‘Shivba Raja’ from Sher Shivraj stirs martial zeal

‘Shivba Raja’ remains one of the most intense modern tributes. Sung by Avadhoot Gandhi and Devdutta Manisha Baji, the anthem appears in the 2022 Marathi historical epic. Devdutta Manisha Baji also composed the track, while Digpal Lanjekar wrote its powerful lyrics. The song portrays Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the fierce “Shivba Raja,” who is also lion-like protector and a leader shaped by divine strength. The impressive beats and rhythmic chants create the atmosphere of a battlefield. The vocals soar with energy and it also recall poetic traditions that compared Shivaji Maharaj’s bravery to gods slaying demons.

3/5

‘Jai Shivaji’ from Chhatrapati Shivaji reinforces devotion

‘Jai Shivaji’, sung by Kailash Kher stands out for its devotional and heroic tone. The 2011 track glorifies the king’s bravery. Kailash Kher’s passionate vocals rise over dramatic orchestration and the song highlights his courage against powerful foes and his commitment to dharma during adversity. The repeated chants of “Jai Shivaji” give the track an amazing quality. It is often heard in rallies and Jayanti gatherings.

4/5

‘Ghamand Kar’ from Tanhaji

‘Ghamand Kar’ is another song widely associated with Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. Sachet and Parampara composed and performed the fierce anthem with lyrics by Anil Verma. Although the film focuses on Tanaji Malusare’s battle for Kondhana the song captures the spirit of the Maratha empire which was under Shivaji Maharaj’s leadership. Lines such as “Jeet ki dhun bana, jeet ka gumaan kar, Taandav sa yuddh kar” urge listeners to embrace pride and also to fight fiercely. The haunting score and intense vocals also helps in creating goosebumps.

5/5

‘Shivaji Maharaj Anthem’ takes a modern narrative route

The ‘Shivaji Maharaj Anthem (Rise of the King)’ which was released in 2023 by PRAN featuring DJ Uday and Rohit Pratap Salve brings a contemporary interpretation. Its rap mixed storytelling showcases the Battle of Pratapgad and Shivaji Maharaj’s brilliance. The song successfully blends modern beats along with historical references. It appeals strongly to mostly young listeners due to it's beats and catchy lyrics .
