Born without sight to Sanskrit scholar and Ayurvedacharya, Pandit Indramani Jain, Ravindra was a singer by heart. He used to sing Jain bhajans, sung by famous Jain poets in temples after which his parents ensured that he gets proper training under Pandit G.L. Jain, Pandit Janardhan Sharma and Pandit Nathu Ram. However, this was just the beginning. Ravindra's love for music took him to Calcutta and then Mumbai. He accompanied Prathibhushan Bhattacharya to Mumbai and composed the music for films like Kranthi and Balidaan.

Ravindra Jain can credit his big break to showman Raj Kapoor. His films, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Do Jasoos and Heena employed Ravindra's talent. He also provided the score for a few Rajshri Productions' films with Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao’s Vivah being the most famous one. Ravindra Jain has been a thorough professional despite having several awards in his kitty. His father had passed away while he was in a recording session for the film, Saudagar. But the great music director did not leave the studio until he wrapped up the recording. He was also very close to singer Yesudas, who is known for his song 'Oo goriya re' from the film, Naiyya. Interestingly, Ravindra had expressed his wish to see Yesudas’ face if it was possible.
