BLACKPINK’s Rosé, PSY, EXO’s Lay: When Korean celebs attended the Met Gala

Met Gala 2021 registered quite some fashion statements, with celebrities wowing everyone with their unique take on this year’s theme - ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. Interestingly, several female artists from South Korea marked their debut at the gala and stunned everyone with their presence. While the Korean fashion icons are already making a noise on the global level, here is a list of times when idols from the East took fashion a notch up with their dazzling appearance on the prestigious Met Gala carpet.

BLACKPINK’s popular artist Rosé marked her Met Gala debut this year in a Little Black Dress with a white statement bow detailing. She paired her chic look with black stockings, a statement neck piece and a black bag from YSL. Her dramatic kohled eyes with nude lips and open tresses added the right amount of glamour to the entire look!

Former 2NE1’s rapper and soloist CL turned heads with her extravagant Alexander Wang outfit featuring a classic blue denim overcoat paired with white briefs. Blending American denim with Korean aesthetics, CL’s outfit was inspired by the traditional hanbok with a knot in front. She added royalty to her look by replicating the hairdo of a Korean empress.

In 2019, Lay from EXO, made an interesting appearance at the fashion event. He suited up in a subdued Time traveller ensemble by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Featuring bold white pints of a UFO in space, the K-POP idol shined bright as he walked the gala red carpet.

In 2013, Siwon made an appearance at the Met Gala, earning a name as the youngest K-pop artist to grace the fashion event. He looked dapper in a formal suit and tie. Talking about the event with Billboard, Siwon later revealed his experience of meeting Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks and Jack Nicholson at the Met Gala. He also stressed on the importance of self-expression and confidence when it comes to representing fashion at a global event.

‘Gangnam Style’ fame PSY made his entry at the Met Gala with Siwon in 2013. Winning hearts with his quirky look, he wore a red-and-black gingham jacket underneath his signature white shirt. PSY finished the look with a leather bowtie and nailed that year’s Punk theme in style with his black shades.

For the Met Gala 2015, Rain was one of the attendees from South Korea. The K-pop idol sported a suave tuxedo from MCM, hoping to justify the theme of ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’. From Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing to Julianne Moore, Rain was pictured with several big names at the starry event.
