NCT's Jaehyun achieves chart-topping success in Korea and China with solo release

Released on August 26 at 6 PM, "Smoke" shot straight to number one on Bugs' real-time chart in Korea. Meanwhile, Jaehyun's debut solo album, "J", claimed the top spot on QQ Music’s digital album sales chart in China, one of the largest music platforms in the country.


"Smoke" is a hip-hop R&B track with a punchy bass line, smooth vocals, and engaging guitar riffs. The lyrics poetically liken a romantic car ride to smoke wafting from a boombox, painting a vivid, emotional picture.

The music video for "Smoke" delves into the theme of narcissism. It portrays the internal struggle of someone who is so enamored with themselves that they isolate from others to avoid exposing their flaws. This journey is captured through haunting imagery of mirrors, reflections, and water. Jeong Yun-o, known professionally as Jaehyun, is a South Korean singer and a member of the popular boy band NCT, including its sub-units NCT 127 and NCT DoJaeJung.

Jaehyun was first introduced as a trainee in December 2013 under SM Rookies, a pre-debut team. He debuted in April 2016 as part of the rotational unit NCT U and later in July 2016 as a member of the Seoul-based fixed unit NCT 127. In April 2023, he joined the fixed unit NCT DoJaeJung. NCT has become one of the most successful K-pop acts, both domestically and internationally, selling over 32 million records in just seven years.
