2025 turned out to be a year of growth and grit for me: Sanjana Anand
Fresh off the success of Ekka, Sanjana Anand describes her current phase as “beautiful, busy, and full of growth”. With multiple re leases this year and more on the way, the actor — who once stumbled into cinema by chance — is now making some of the most conscious and exciting choices of her career. “There’s always growth — in the teams, the stories, the collaborations. I’m hoping each film helps me do bet ter than the last,” she tells us. Sanjana, who began acting while still working in an IT firm, admits that she didn’t have a long-term plan when she started out. “I was very fortunate. My debut worked, my second film be came a blockbuster, and one project led to another. When people began telling me I had potential, that’s when I start ed loving what I did. My vi sion grew with every film,” she recalls.
Today, she tells us, her script choices are guided by clarity and experience. “I want char acters that allow me to act, to grow, and to be remembered,” she says, adding that she’s drawn to female leads written with sensitivity and strength. While she cher ishes critical praise and the joy of audience ap preciation, Sanjana is pragmatic about the business she’s in. “Box office numbers matter too. Producers take risks, and for them, success is also meas ured in collections. As actors, our growth is tied to that,” she states. Despite a two-year gap in releases, Sanjana never stopped working. “Not having a release doesn’t mean you’re idle. Some films take time. As actors, our job is to perform; the rest depends on many oth er factors. I had films ready — they just didn’t reach theatres then. In 2025, everything aligned beautifully. It was a year of both growth and grit for me,” she notes, and adds, “Cin ema influences us. I get influenced too, so I wouldn’t take up something that leaves a negative impact, es pecially on younger audienc es,” she says. On social media, she keeps things simple and work-focused. “It helps when you’re starting out, but after a point, your work speaks louder than your profile."
