A traveling theatre performer in the early days

Prior to making his debut alongside Dr. Rajkumar in the 1954 film 'Bedara Kannappa', Narasimharaju was part of a number of touring theatre companies in Karnataka. In fact, he had begun acting on stage at the age of 4, and the prevailing poverty in his household forced him to take up acting quite early on. He was part of several reputed companies like Edathore, Shri Chandramauleshwara Nataka Sabha, Belur's Gunda Joisara Company, and others before joining the Gubbi Veeranna Company sometime in the '40s. Reportedly, Narasimharaju would often start his theatre troupes but would incur losses to eventually return to other companies.

The Edathore Theatre Company, established in the town of Krishnarajanagara, was to become the rendezvous point for many future stalwarts like Dr. Rajkumar, G.V. Iyer, and T.R. Narasimharaju. For Dr. Raj and Narasimharaju especially, this was the beginning of a glorious journey together that lasted almost three decades with several iconic films produced along the way.
